Position Summary:

Chemeketa is a beautiful and vibrant campus with a commitment to student success. At Chemeketa, we strive to create a diverse work culture that supports employee success and promotes growth within the college. This position assists the database administrator with college-level technology projects and provides analysis and guidance for college-wide, departmental, and team-level standards in accordance with college policy and business goals. This position is currently remote. 

Essential Functions:

Database Administration
  • Provides proactive support for administrative databases as directed by the database administrator
  • Performs database maintenance tasks under the direction of the database administrator
  • Provides technical assistance to other information technology employees regarding database best practices
  • Applies security standards to database tasks according to departmental, college, and industry standards
  • Communicates technical information to employees or groups of employees
Middle-Tier Administration
  • Assists with the evaluation and deployment of middle-tier applications and upgrades in all environments (development, test, production)
  • Provides proactive support for middle-tier technology systems under the guidance of the database administrator
  • Insures administrative systems are safely and security backed up, transported, stored, and available for disaster recovery
Upgrades
  • Follows a prescribed system to track, test, stage, and complete upgrades to administrative technology systems in all environments (development, test, production) as directed by the system administrator
  • Conducts analyses to determine benefits and assess risks of applying available upgrades
  • Tests and tunes upgrades based on past practice and institutional need
  • Communicates and coordinates with system stakeholders to insure upgrades are available, tested, and vetted prior to production deployment
Troubleshooting
  • Assists the database administrator with troubleshooting activities for college-wide administrative systems
  • Advises other information technology employees on solutions to college-wide technical issues
  • Researches courses of action to fix, patch, or work around problems with administrative technology systems
Development and Documentation
  • Writes complex SQL queries using relational database concepts and business goal-driven design requirements
  • Writes and maintains code
  • Writes and maintains functional and technical documentation
Other Functions
  • Uses prescribed tools to maintain code, track work, and write documentation
  • Performs all other job related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's Degree from an accredited institution in the field of computer science, information systems, or database management
OR
A combination of education and paid database administration experience equal to three years

Core Competencies

  • Knowledge of relational database concepts
  • Knowledge of SQL programming language
  • Experience with Oracle development tools such as TOAD, Apex, SQL Developer
  • PL/SQL programming for Oracle database
  • Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Effective communication with non-technical users and with members of interdisciplinary teams
  • Flexible and adaptable in regard to learning and understanding new technologies
  • Effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Highly self-motivated and directed with keen attention to detail
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in the field of computer science, information systems, or database management
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner and associated products
  • Experience with Oracle database administration
  • Experience with cloud-based servers and databases
  • Familiarity with Atlassian products (JIRA, Confluence, and BitBucket)

Terms of Employment:

  • This is a 100%, 12-month classified assignment of the C2 band and grade
  • Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends
  • Requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire
  • Upon hire, must pass security inquiry which may include criminal history; only information relevant to the position will be considered
