What is a Sound & Presentation Quality Engineer?

This position helps establish and maintain quality engineering methodologies, systems and practices relating to Cinemark’s sound and presentation equipment. The incumbent will collaborate with cross-functional teams, delivering training as necessary, to maximize the ROI on equipment and ensure memorable movie experiences for our guests. This role will drive the department’s quality engineering goals and priorities and will be a champion of problem-solving and continuous improvement.

A Day in the Life of a Sound & Presentation Quality Engineer:

  • Maintains all standard-operating-procedures manuals and technician training manuals for Sound & Presentation, keeping them updated and available
  • Identifies opportunities to improve existing workflows/systems, as well as how to keep cinema equipment, software, and other technological tools in step with rapidly changing digital capacities in cinema production and research
  • Evaluates and audits training strategies, solutions, and techniques to ensure they meeting the needs of the organization, identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Works with senior leaders to set an annual training calendar of events and assists with the planning and logistics as necessary
  • Creates new, and enhances existing, training curriculum and ensures all materials, e.g., visual aids, handouts, checklists, etc., are updated and accurate
  • Provides training to Quality Assurance Technicians to develop the necessary knowledge and skills around how to maintain, troubleshoot, and fix the digital cinema equipment
  • Liaisons with studios and production companies during private screenings and test runs to ensure pristine sound quality
  • Develops and maintains a strong partnership with Theatre Operations Presentation (TOP) to maintain a sound understanding of current practices and procedures

What You Will Need to Have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in audio production, engineering or a related field) or equivalent work experience
  • 7 to 10 years of experience with audio equipment for movie theatres and/or theatrical presentations
  • Solid knowledge of digital projection equipment
  • High-level of technical aptitude required, e.g., knowledge of LAN/IP networks
  • Ability to create, organize, and maintain technical documentation
  • Demonstrated aptitude in coordinating and conducting training program
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities, meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Availability to travel up to 75% of the time
