DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK
Under supervision of the Water Superintendent, assists in maintaining the water distribution system and water plant.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assists with maintaining and repair water distribution system including fire hydrants and valves, meters, meter pits and other connections
• Maintains records and files related to daily assignments
• Complete and submit all KDHE required sampling, lab work and reporting
• Sets up traffic safety zones when required
• Performs scheduled preventive maintenance and repair to assigned vehicles and equipment
• Prompt and regular attendance is required for this position
• Other duties as assigned
PERIPHERAL DUTIES
• Attend monthly safety meetings
• Maintains and demonstrates good public relations
• Help other team members accomplish tasks
• Assist in other departments, as required
• Wear Personal Protective Equipment, as required
• Abide by all standards, conduct and policies, as stated in Employee Handbook

Requirements
Education, Licensure or Certification
• High School Diploma or GED
• Ability to obtain class I water operator/distribution certification within 18months
• Valid Driver’s License required w/clean driving record
• Ability to obtain CDL within 2 months
• Ability and motivation to progress to water operator I position
Experience, Specialized Knowledge, and Other Requirements
• Safe methods of lifting heavy objects
• Skilled in the proper use of basic hand and power tools
• Must have good mechanical ability
• Must live within 20 minutes of the Water Plant

• Has ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as sitting, standing, walking, bending, climbing, twisting, squatting, reaching overhead, grasping, lifting, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling and handling of objects
• Has ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift up to 75 pounds with assistance
• Has normal eyesight and depth perception, with or without correction
• Hears normal tones, with or without correction
• Has ability to work within environment described below
