What does an Farmer's Market Coordinator do at companies like CITY OF SHOREVIEW?

This part-time, seasonal position assists with planning and organizing the Shoreview Farmer's Market. This includes coordinating the event on Tuesdays, serving as the point person for the entertainment and community partners at the market, and providing information to visitors. It requires someone who is customer focused, detail-oriented, has strong problem solving skills, and can work independently. An understanding of farmers markets, local foods and community relations is helpful.

The City of Shoreview hosts the Farmer's Market from June to October each year on Tuesdays. The Market is open from 3 - 7 pm with shorter hours in October and is located next to our Community Center on the lower level. 
  • Coordinate Market activities including the market site, vendor placement, equipment, traffic control, signage, market day activities, entertainment, event setup and tear down, etc.
  • Ensure Farmers Market rules, as well as city, state and federal regulations are followed to ensure safety and equality for vendors and guests.
  • Supervise day staff and volunteers.  
  • Work cooperatively with the Market Manager, recreation, public works and other city staff.
  • Troubleshoot market problems, manage unplanned issues onsite, and respond to customer and vendor concerns.
  • Be familiar with emergency and accident procedures and respond appropriately.
  • Assist with weekly attendance reports.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Market Manager.
Qualifications: 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid, unrestricted driver's license and satisfactory motor vehicle report
  • Ability to lift and move 25 lbs.
  • Prior farmer's market or event planning/coordination experience and an interest in promotion of local foods and farmers markets desired
Hours:   8 - 10 hours per week. Market days hours are 12:30 - 8 pm (Tuesdays).
              May have some office hours on Monday.
              Attendance at the Market every Tuesday is required.
