What does an Lead Community Development Manager do at companies like CLASSY?

Classy is seeking a detail-oriented and enthusiastic team player to lead community outreach, and corresponding marketing efforts, on behalf of our organization. This includes creating and maintaining relationships with key thought leaders in the nonprofit community as well as Classy’s internal experts, while leveraging their expertise for speaking opportunities both externally and for Classy’s full scope of events. These events include the company’s largest annual event, the Collaborative, our awards gala, the Classy Awards, industry events, product-launch events, and curated user conferences taking place throughout the year. 

 

In this role, your primary focus is to elevate Classy as a leader in the nonprofit and technology space by overseeing the end-to-end development and delivery of high quality content for our events, as well as industry events we participate in. You’ll work with our Chief Impact Officer to assist in managing a third-party content advisory council, as well as work with an internal team of stakeholders, to ensure all content meets attendees’ educational needs and supports Classy’s business priorities and key messages. This person will also lead our community outreach efforts by securing strategic external speaking opportunities for Classy’s thought leaders and leading our outside awards program. 

 

Knowledge of or willingness to quickly learn the nonprofit space is a must. This role will be expected to not only understand the space, but entrench themselves in this world as a way to elevate Classy’s brand positioning. You will work as part of the larger Content, Brand and Events team and will work closely with the marketing, product, and customer service teams to ensure event content reflects the overall Classy product strategy and roadmap, and thought-leadership goals. Additionally, you will interface with Classy’s executive leadership to secure and guide speaking opportunities for them, as well as submit these individuals and the company for various industry and business awards. 

 

You will manage Classy’s community engagement from start to finish, including cultivating relationships with nonprofit leaders to strategically leverage them for event, blog and video content, and end-to-end session and presenter logistics and delivery of all. This person will work closely with internal teams to define goals and timeline and  meet deadlines while providing content support on strategy, development, and execution for all events.

 

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated and an extremely organized individual with experience managing complex projects with existing nonprofit relationships. You will utilize your attention to detail, your experience in project management, and your excellent verbal and written communication skills to ensure high quality results.

 

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing an external content advisory council made up of leaders in the nonprofit space. This group will help you curate content for Classy’s two largest events, the Collaborative and Classy Awards. 
  • Maintain relationships with key stakeholders in the nonprofit community.
  • Unify and engage key internal and external stakeholders to identify content strategy and organizational goals mapped to overall event themes. 
  • Oversee and manage production and delivery of all event deliverables related to content development end-to-end including:
    • Oversee the call for proposals process and timelines, tailoring applications per event, strategizing session types, and drive rigorous content selection, development, and review activities, keeping committee members and stakeholders well informed and engaged in key decisions
    • Hands-on, daily management of all session and speaker logistics including travel and expense guidance and invitations, submission status, session details, inquiries related to speaking at an event, speaker assignments and profiles, speaker cancellations, session scheduling, speaker gifts, copy editing, collection of headshots, slides, bios and abstracts, session tagging, scheduling rehearsals/dry-runs, and more
    • Build, own, and manage the content management system, including session scheduling, space, calendar, and/or technology allocation and plans
    • Create and manage event agendas with key stakeholders to optimize attendee flow, different learning styles, venue capacity, speaker skills, and event goals and objectives
    • Liaise with the sponsor management team to ensure that sponsor content deliverables are executed as per contract requirements.
    • Direct all event logistics related to sessions including room allocation, scheduling, agenda management, and general session and production timeline management. Collaborate with other team stakeholders and vendors to define requirements for room set-up, furniture, AV, and video
    • Schedule and run conference calls and meetings with key participants including meeting agendas, resources and meeting notes
    • Build and distribute regular reports on event deliverables and status updates
  • Measure results (evaluations, attendance, feedback) on all content and communicate findings back to key stakeholders. Modify processes to adopt best practices and incorporate feedback as appropriate
  • Drive coordination and strategy with Classy’s Marketing team to feature event content in promotional efforts (email, social, press) and work with Classy’s design team to create marketing materials related to that content.
  • Leverage relationships and conversations with nonprofit professionals to curate and execute written content for Classy’s blog, webinars, video testimonials and internal communications. 
  • Work with Classy thought leaders to identify strategic opportunities for them to speak at external events and run point on end-to-end session and presenter logistics and delivery
  • Manage and execute Classy’s internal awards calendar - including identifying opportunities, maintaining budget, drafting awards submissions and tracking progress against predetermined KPI’s.

 

What you bring (Required):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communication, public relations, event coordination, nonprofit management or other similar field required
  • 7-10 years’ experience in community outreach, content programs, nonprofit marketing/ public relations, or similar experience 
  • Knowledge of the nonprofit space and the unique challenges leaders in this segment face
  • Excellent project management and writing skills
  • Adaptable and calm in high-stress, tight deadline situations and patient in the face of changing priorities
  • Ability to work independently and autonomously; self-directed and resourceful
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, highly cross-functional organization
  • Passion for networking and the ability cultivate relationships in the nonprofit, social enterprise and technology industries
  • Ability to assess and prioritize workload in a strict deadline oriented environment
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to creatively negotiate demands
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to interact at all levels from temp staff to CEO
  • Ability to travel when required
  • Candidate does not have to be located in San Diego. We are open to a full-time, remote hire for this position. 

What would be awesome to have (Preferred):

  • Previous experience creating content for or executing large to mid-scale events
  • Experience working for a SaaS company
  • Working knowledge of video platforms and content delivery systems
  • Event experience in both large- and mid-scale conferences
  • Experience with Salesforce 
  • Experience with Asana, or similar project management software 
  • Portfolio of writing samples and/or proven success in managing company awards programs
