This is an exciting opportunity to help build the capacity for evidence-informed program design and improvement. Research Knowledge Management has  become a critical functionality in organizations seeking to learn from research outputs and apply them effectively to practice. The manager role will have the opportunity to oversee the creative collation and effective delivery of objective research knowledge to the entire organization.

 

This leader provides management and oversight to the Program Effectiveness Research Knowledge Management team to advance organizational knowledge and programmatic effectiveness. The team focuses on the integration and translation of research knowledge, to inform Compassion’s child development program policy and practice, leadership decision-making and marketing platforms. They have primary responsibility for the development, generation, collation and delivery of credible research knowledge from multiple internal and external sources. They also play a key role in quality assurance of research reporting and the development and maintenance of research policies and guidelines. The primary purpose of this leadership position is to provide full, daily management for assigned professional staff. This responsibility includes hiring, discipline, and termination, as well as, coaching, performance management, assigning, checking, and approving work to satisfy department objectives. The incumbent will ensure accomplishment of department responsibilities based on oversight from senior management, following established practices, organizational strategy, department guidelines, and within approved budget.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully upholds Compassion’s ministry in prayer.
  • Acts as an advocate for children. Understands and advances Christ’s mandate to protect children. Raises awareness of the needs of children and takes active steps to help protect against neglect, abuse, and exploitation of children. Promotes the dignity, respect, positive treatment, potential of children in all circumstances. Encourages the involvement of others in helping children in need. Reports and appropriately supports responses to incidents of harm of children if they occur.
  • Provides leadership and development to direct reports.  Works with staff to foster an environment of professional growth, in alignment with compassion’s strategies and objectives.  Consult with peer management and senior leaders to successfully align departmental resources and priorities across Compassion.
  • Provides leadership, planning and consultation to subordinates, executives, and peer management in the successful alignment of assigned department resources to ensure achievement of operational priorities and initiatives, integrating priorities within organizational strategies to ensure the department’s purpose is fulfilled.
  • Contributes to or prepares and administers the annual budget and departmental expenses, ensuring accountability for on-time completion of deliverables based on department objectives, SLAs, and other Compassion standards, ensuring compliance with regulatory and board policies.
  • Selects, manages and develops assigned staff, establishing goals and objectives, coaching and managing performance, including discipline, motivation, and annual reviews; supports continuous learning and development that enhances individual performance and organizational capability. Drives strategic direction for and collaborates on the sharing of credible research knowledge and thought leadership with peers, division and organizational leadership.

  • Supervises specialists in the development, generation and delivery of credible research knowledge based on quantitative and qualitative research findings and literature. Applies appropriate learning approaches and principles in the promotion of reliable, timely and meaningful knowledge to multiple audiences via multiple modes and forums. Oversees the development and maintenance of the PER style guide, based on corporate and PER.

  • Leads a team of specialists in conducting ongoing impact research reporting in an effort to share knowledge about the effectiveness of all parts of Compassion’s child development programs. Includes collaborating on the delivery of learning objectives with peers and stakeholders.
  • Draws on diverse field exposure to advise peers and other leaders on relevant programmatic issues when requested and through contribution to and/or leadership of multi-departmental project, creative thinking and analysis teams.
  • Collaborates with senior leaders from other departments that collect information and data (e.g., marketing, auditing and quality assurance, business intelligence, and management) to minimize duplication of effort, build cooperation and support the growth of dynamic and quality knowledge-sharing across the organization. 
  • Leads subordinate professionals in the presentation of consumable research findings to large audiences as a way to engage non-research staff in research knowledge and learning. May personally present research findings as well.

Education

  • Master’s Degree in International Development, Economics, Psychology, Public Health, Epidemiology, Ethnography, Anthropology, Social Science or related discipline.


Work Experience

  • Relevant work experience required to enable the individual to be able to successfully perform the job as listed.
  • Major coursework, qualifications, experience, and ongoing professional development in advanced research methodology.

Physical Demands: Sitting, standing, and/or walking for up to 8 hours per day
