Employment Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt (15-20 hours/week).

Occupational Summary

The Weekend Facilities Associate will ensure the cleanliness and positive appearance of the Cook Museum of Natural Science. This vital role will not only maintain the offices and common areas to high standards, but will also assist other Facilities Associates in a variety of tasks and duties. This team member will be a dependable, service-oriented person who is always looking for ways to help people as they adhere to the mission and goals of the Cook Museum of Natural Science.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning activities to include cleaning bathrooms, bathroom fixtures, sweeping and mopping floors; cleaning breakroom kitchen, including refrigerator and dishes; vacuuming carpets; dusting; cleaning windows; polishing; and other cleaning-related activities throughout building locations as instructed.
• Gather and launder dirty linens from all areas of the Museum.
• Gather and empty trash and recycling containers.
• Secure office areas after cleaning has been accomplished.
• Report any security or safety issues observed to direct report.
• Report any urgent or emergent maintenance problems (such as toilets or other plumbing issues) to direct report.
• Assist other Facilities Associates with general facilities maintenance work.
• Assist other Facilities Associates with general facilities projects, as needed, throughout the building locations.
• Complete non-routine cleaning tasks and other duties as assigned by direct report.

Requirements

Educational/Experience Requirements

• High School graduate or GED equivalent.
• Current Alabama driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

• Ability to work effectively both individually and as a member of a team.
• Has the ability to practice active listening skills. Gives full attention to what other people are saying, takes time to understand the points being made, asks questions as appropriate without interrupting.
• Ability to see details at close range.
• Ability to understand English language and provide information to supervisor and co-workers by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
• Basic knowledge of safe practices for using power and hand tools.
• Adept at using a variety of chemicals, cleaning supplies, spill absorbents, etc.

Time Commitments

• Typical schedule will be Friday thru Sunday, with some evening and special events as needed.

Physical Demands

• Considerable use of arms and legs and moving whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, stooping, walking, and handling of materials.
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
