The Role

Intralogistics solutions combine state-of-the-art Mechatronics, Robotics, Computational Perception, Computational Mathematics, Control, Artificial Intelligence, and Operations Research foundations, algorithms, and technologies, to deliver effective high-throughput processing for many mission-critical commercial logistics applications.

The Center of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Algorithms (CoE AI) at KION Group AG combines advances in Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, IoT, Perception, Operations Research, and Cloud and Edge Computing domains to deliver breakthrough end-to-end solutions for supply chain and intralogistics ecosystems.

What We Are Looking For

A dynamic, team-oriented, self-starting, hands-on, innovation-minded Technical Lead to support driving the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning charter of CoE AI.

This key position will work with internal teams and external customers to:

• Serve as lead and subject matter expert in commercial AI and Analytics (Descriptive, Prescriptive, and Predictive) platforms/solutions lifecycle, under cloud-based As-a-Service delivery model.
• Identify, define, and lead AI and Analytics projects with quick market introduction goals, using agile methodologies.
• Apply state-of-the-art AI principles and technologies to solve and/or improve complex planning, search, classification, recommendation, prediction, and optimization problems arising from the need to measurably streamline supply chain management operations, sometimes involving synthesis/repurposing of existing solutions currently in production.
• Develop novel, model-based POCs leveraging advances in GPU, Sensor Fusion, Edge, and Cloud Computing technology, targeting demonstrable increase in reliability and adaptive control of highly automated intralogistics and warehouse systems.

Required Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Machine Learning, Mathematics, Statistics, Analytics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Proven scholastic background in Finite Dimensional Functional Analysis, Probability Theory, Statistics, Discrete Mathematics, and Algorithms.
• Proven knowledge of Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS), and NoSQL databases.
• Proven knowledge of High-Performance Computing (HPC), parallelism, multiprocessing, and multithreading.
• Ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical audiences of various seniority levels, stakeholders, vendors, and internal clients.
• Natural inclination for and/or record of servant leadership and Software Engineering best-practices— test-driven development, software patterns, conventions, code reviews, preferred coding styles, and delivery standards.
• Fluency in C/C++ and Python, in conjunction with widely used AI/ML SDKs.
• 4+ years of experience in developing AI/ML and Analytics solutions under Agile methodologies and Continuous Integration/Delivery (CI/D).
• 2+ years of experience applying Random Forests, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), and Sequence Models to a diverse set of commercial applications including, but not limited to, Classification, Sensor Fusion, Navigation, Autonomous Control Systems, and Natural Language Processing (NLP).
• 4+ years of experience with asset control and documentation—Git, VSTS, AzureDevOps, Confluence, etc.
• 2+ years of experience in CUDA, TensorFlow, and Keras—or similar.
• At least 1 year of experience designing and developing commercial model-centric AI solutions, using technologies offered by major cloud providers such as Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS.
• Experience identifying and working with applicable key open-source SDKs, frameworks, and tools—Spark, Storm, Kafka, PySpark, etc.

Preferred Additional Qualifications

• An understanding of industry and technology trends in Supply Chain’s Intralogistics.
• Scholastic background in Operations Research.
• Experience with Azure IoT Hub.
• Proficiency in cuDNN, cuBLAS, cuSOLVER, nvGRAPH, TensorRT, DeepStream SDK, and related NVIDIA technologies.
• Proficiency in Java, C#, SQL, and LaTeX.
• Ability to accommodate some domestic and international travel.
