Job Summary

The primary role of the Social Security Representative Payee Reviewer is conducting site reviews of Organizations that serve as a Representative Payee for Social Security beneficiaries, following specific guidelines and protocols as set forth by the Social Security Administration. The Reviewer works extremely independent of others in the Organization, travels to many locations across Texas, conducts interviews of representative payees and beneficiaries, reviews worksites and housing facilities, reviews financial records, assesses violations or potential incidents of mismanagement of beneficiary funds and then writes up a report regarding findings. Further, the reviewer develops corrective action plans to assist representative payees in conforming to requirements specified by the Social Security Administration Commissioner.

Government clearance by the United States Government Office of Personnel Management is required for this position.

Social Security's Representative Payment Program provides financial management for the Social Security and SSI payments of Social Security beneficiaries who are incapable of managing their own Social Security or SSI payments. The Social Security Representative Payee Program at DRTx is charged with conducting onsite reviews in response to allegations or concerns about the performance or the suitability of representative payees.  Additionally, the program will refer beneficiaries to other programs or services DRTx considers appropriate.  The primary role of the Reviewer is conducting these site reviews, following specific guidelines and protocols as set forth by the Social Security Administration. The Reviewer works extremely independent of others in the Organization and travels to many locations across Texas.  This position will be based in Austin.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • conduct site visits to interview representative payees and beneficiaries, review confidential and private records, document observations and collect evidence and information of value
  • review worksites and housing facilities for possible health and safety violations  
  • review and analyze financial records to assess violations or potential incidents of mismanagement of beneficiary funds
  • prepare comprehensive reports detailing the investigation, findings and recommendations 
  • develops corrective action plans to assist representative payees in conforming to requirements specified by the Social Security Administration Commissioner.  

Qualifications and Skills

  • A minimum of four (4) years previous investigations experience with demonstrated
    success working with persons with disabilities and maintaining confidential
    information.
  • Demonstrated functional knowledge in basic accounting principles and terminology.
  • Strong and effective writing, verbal, and negotiating communications skills including
    the ability to do so in a concise manner, even when doing so regarding complex issues
    to a variety of people.
  • Government clearance by the United States Government Office of Personnel Management is required for this position.
