Excel Academy was founded in 2003 with the mission to provide a high-quality education to students in East Boston and Chelsea. Over the years, we have grown from one middle school to a network of four schools with 1,400 students in grades 5 to 12. Duties and Responsibilities

The Associate Dean of Student Supports - Compliance provides focus and specialized support to the Learning Support Team at Excel Academy Charter High School and impacts students with disabilities at a variety of levels. This position will report to the Dean of Student Supports, and will ensure students receiving special education and/or 504 accommodations make significant academic gains. The Associate Dean of Student Supports will also manage key instructional roles and co-lead the Learning Support Department.

Directly manage and cultivate key staff members

  • Manage members of broader Student Supports Teams, which may include, Case Managers, Counselors, Special Education Coordinators, and School Psychologist;
  • Provide school-based support and feedback to the SLP, Reading Specialist, and school-based services like OT; and
  • Support case managers and instructional learning support team members to understand special education from a compliance lens, as appropriate for their roles

Lead, Monitor, and Evaluate Special Education Compliance

  • Monitor Special Education compliance for Excel Academy Charter High School;
  • Develop, monitor, and evaluate team systems related to all aspects of Special education compliance;
  • Lead and participate in compliance reviews, as needed;
  • Lead SIMS data process;
  • Serve as SSD Coordinator for all College Board exams;
  • Lead case management department

Serve as a co-leader of the Student Supports Department

  • Management of team members within the learning support team;
  • Serve as the co-leader of the school-based Learning Support Team, including co-leading team and Department meetings, when applicable;
  • Partner with the Dean of Student office, especially when working with students who have IEPs and 504 plans to manage behavior plans;
  • Manage compliance and case management for students in extended hospitalizations or extended absences related to students’ disabilities;
  • Support network PAC meetings coordination;
  • May lead SST (Student Supports Team)
  • Serve as Local Educational Agency representative (LEA). as needed

Serve as a productive member of the Administrative team

  • Provide morning and after-school coverage as specified by the team;
  • Drive school improvement through participation in annual summer strategic planning cycle;
  • Meaningfully participate in monthly leadership meetings and weekly instructional leadership team meetings; and
  • Collaborate regularly with other administrators, including the Head of School, Assistant Head of School, and other Deans (Deans of Students, Operations, Curriculum & Instruction, & College Access & Post-secondary support).

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree and certification in Special Education is required; a Master’s degree is strongly preferred;
  • A minimum of three years’ special education teaching experience in an urban public school or charter school setting is strongly preferred;
  • A commitment to and belief in all students and the mission of Excel Academy Charter Schools, including Excel’s values and educational model;

  • The ability to focus and thrive in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment;
  • The ability to work effectively in a team environment and the willingness and desire to support others in doing their best work; and

Preference will be given to applicants who also:

  • Have experience in a public or charter school setting
  • Speak Spanish, Portuguese or Arabic fluently
  • Can speak to the importance of rigorous classroom instruction and culture
  • Can speak to the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion
