Excel Academy was founded in 2003 with the mission to provide a high-quality education to students in East Boston and Chelsea. Over the years, we have grown from one middle school to a network of four schools with 1,400 students in grades 5 to 12. At Excel Academy Charter Schools, we believe that when a student has the support and tools to pursue a productive post-secondary pathway aligned to their personal identity and values, it can fundamentally change their life trajectory.

Communications Associate 

The Communications Associate will cultivate external messaging to the community we serve, including students, prospective families and staff, volunteers, and donors. Toward that end, the CA will demonstrate creativity and strong project management skills to steward our online presence and create compelling collateral to engage external stakeholders in Excel’s mission.

Specific responsibilities will include:

Marketing Materials Development

• Write compelling email newsletters and other email alerts for donors, volunteers, teachers, families, and general audiences
• Manage the assembly of the annual donor communication and other marketing materials, including working with various stakeholders across the organization to collect relevant information and ensure consistent style and tone
• Create other marketing materials as needed with an eye toward brand consistency, clarity, conciseness, and effectiveness; manage, maintain, and grow the library of shared collateral, photos, videos, documents
• Research and apply best practices in digital marketing and communications, particularly in the education sector

Multi-Channel Communications Management

• Monitor and develop content for Excel’s social media presence; effectively execute marketing strategy on a regular basis on multiple platforms (Linkedin, Twitter, Facebook etc.); monitor trends in social media tools, trends, and applications and appropriately apply that knowledge to increasing the use of social media at Excel
• Manage Facebook ad campaign construction and maintenance.
• Provide public relations and media relations support with an emphasis on amplifying messaging and news items - Research and identify strategic media contacts; Monitor earned media
• Participate in updating and maintaining Excel’s website

Data Management and Other Responsibilities

• Analyze key metrics and tweak strategy as needed
• Compile reports for management showing results (ROI)
• Partner with the development staff to develop additional collateral as needed

Qualifications

• A commitment to and belief in all students and the mission of Excel Academy Charter Schools, including Excel’s values and educational model
• Spanish fluency in speaking, reading, and writing; superb grammar in writing, including accents and conjugations
• Bachelor’s degree
• 1-3 years communications and/or volunteer recruitment experience preferably in an education or non-profit related organization
• Exceptional organizational and project management skills
• Extensive knowledge of social media platforms/tools and emerging new media
• Eye and interest in graphic design
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work independently as well as within small and diverse teams
• A commitment to addressing racial and economic inequity in education
• An openness to change, a willingness to problem-solve, and an interest in receiving feedback for continuous improvement
• Outgoing, warm, calm, sincere and professional demeanor in all situations
• Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Google Drive Suite
• Knowledge of Constant Contact, WordPress, HTML, and/or Salesforce a plus
