Description

In partnership with the University of Bridgeport, Goodwin University is seeking candidates for the position of Academic Success Advisor. This position serves as an academic advisor in the Office of Student Academic Success (OSAS). This position is responsible for comprehensively advising first-year degree-seeking students, supplemental advising upper-class students, facilitating new student orientations; providing student success and recovery coaching and leading student success workshops. The position is responsible for providing support for the academic and professional development of University of Bridgeport students. This position will be located in Bridgeport, CT.

Applicants may be asked to demonstrate any or all of the following duties:

  • Provides academic and developmental advising in individual and group settings for students resulting in increased student persistence and retention.
  • Coordinates and provides intentional academic and career advising strategies specific to cohort type.
  • Assists in student academic learning support services
  • Provides leadership at the department level that can have impact on college-wide retention initiatives.
  • Assist with college-wide student success workshops each semester for a broad range of student cohorts. Specifically, students on academic probation.
  • Coordinates as appropriate funding sources and support for workshops to benefit the entire campus community and beyond  
  • Serves as point of contact for students who need student success coaching and makes appropriate academic advising plans for special student cohorts.
  • Educates internal stakeholders on resources and services available to assist in understanding the role of OSAS Services and how to best support students in need.
  • Coordinates and provides advocacy support, conflict resolution and crisis intervention referrals for students.
  • Refers students to appropriate internal student services resources and/or external resources to third parties counseling services/social service agencies in the community.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates student learning outcomes for OSAS programs to include but not limited to staff professional development activities.
  • Serves as a collaborative member of the Heckman Center and works cross-functionally as such
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

A Master’s degree is required from a regionally accredited institution in student development, educational leadership, counseling, or a related field. Candidates in the last semester of their graduate program will be considered.

  • Supervisory Experience:

No supervisory experience required. Leadership experience preferred.

  • Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Excellent English listening and speaking skills required. Spanish language proficiency is an asset.

  • Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram/chart, or schedule form.

  • Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic knowledge of word processing software, spreadsheets, Internet, e-mail system, and PowerPoint software. Must become efficient with current college database software and other college required software within one month of hire.

  • Certificates and Licenses:
