Great Parks of Hamilton County is accepting applications for a Full Time Arborist. Performs, and occasionally supervises, semi-skilled to skilled work in the care, maintenance, and data collection for trees and shrubs in park open spaces, trails, roadways, activity areas and other park locations to promote the proper growth and maintain the health of trees and shrubs. Position involves planting, pruning, inspection, identification, data collection, record-keeping, tree assessment, condemnation, and tree removals. The protection of public safety, employee safety, property and urban forest health are among the primary responsibilities. Position is mobile and works in all parks and may require weekend work.
Job Skills / RequirementsPrunes, trims, fells, and maintains trees and shrubs. Performs tree assessments to determine safe removal methods and proper execution processes for pruning. Secures work areas for compliance with PERRP and ANSI safety procedures to ensure public and crew safety.
Plants trees and shrubs in specified park areas using appropriate installation procedures and techniques.
Identifies and inspects trees as to species, condition, structural integrity and insect or disease infestation; assesses site conditions, records location, reports and documents findings.
Serves as a functional supervisor. Monitors work progress, provides training and direction, resolves routine problems and ensures work is completed as directed with quality standards. Provides knowledge, guidance and consultation with assigned staff to ensure work complies with arboricultural and horticultural practices.
Reports work progress and related information to Urban Forester.
Prepares planting areas for shrubs and trees. Waters, fertilizes, mulches and maintains plants.
Exhibits regular and punctual attendance.
Responsible for routine preventive maintenance to equipment. Lubricates moving parts, checks oil and other fluid levels, replaces belts and other routine checks.
Assists with preparing and overseeing contracted tree work, assessing tree health and diagnosing issues, coordinating utility line maintenance, advising on projects that could impact trees and invasive species monitoring and removal.
Assists Urban Forester with writing requests for proposals (RFPs) for tree work, maintaining hazard tree database, and other administrative duties.
Performs job duties in accordance with Great Parks of Hamilton County’s policies, procedures, and performance expectations.
Maintains confidentiality of confidential and sensitive information.
Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and punctual attendance and works outside of normal schedule as required.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Trains and coaches employees on all aspects of the job to include care of trees, use of equipment and tools and the necessary safety precautions of the work.
Responds to tree related emergencies; determines and executes course of action to correct problems; maintains public safety.
Logs work performed, problems encountered, materials used and other required information. Maintains purchasing records and is responsible for purchasing card.
Attends training to receive continuing education on current methods in Urban Forestry and related topics. Assigned to train others on safe and effective tree felling, equipment operation, and urban forestry methods and techniques.
Utilizes and promotes environmentally sustainable practices and processes.
Performs other job duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Outdoor working conditions with regular exposure to, dust, heat, cold, rain, snow and other inclement weather conditions as well as herbicides and pesticides. Regular exposure to noise and moving parts from landscape equipment and fumes. Work at usual heights from forestry lift up to 72’ while operating chain saws or other tools.

QUALIFICATIONS
An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is:
High School Degree or equivalent with at least two years of practical experience, training, trade or work related course work that evidences and verifies climbing and aerial lift experience pruning and felling mature sized trees and associated urban forestry skills.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License that meets GPHC current carrier guidelines. State Pesticide Applicator’ License within one year of hire; ISA Certified Arborist within one year of hire.
Typical salary range for the position between $18.81-$23.51 depending on experience, full salary range for the position is $18.81-$28.21
