The Public Health Policy Manager will lead health policy activities primarily in the public health arena, but also bridging the nexus between public health and infectious disease (ID) clinical care and serve as a subject matter expert to support government relations, communications and other IDSA staff.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Serves as the staff liaison for the IDSA Public Health Committee, working with the Committee chair to develop and execute the committee’s policy agenda to advance IDSA’s priorities in public health, including immunizations, public health workforce and infrastructure, antibiotic use in agriculture and the environment, emerging infections, biothreat preparedness and response.  Committee liaison role includes managing recruitment and orientation of new committee members; developing agendas, background materials and action items for committee meetings; and developing policy proposals.
  • Coordinates the IDSA-led Stakeholder Forum on Antimicrobial Resistance (S-FAR), a coalition of over 120 external organizations.  Includes managing communications to S-FAR members, S-FAR advocacy opportunities (annual Hill Day and regular sign-on letters), and new member recruitment.
  • Conducts policy research and drafts comment letters in response to federal proposals, position statements, white papers for journal submission, fact sheets and other policy documents as needed.
  • Serves as IDSA staff lead in strengthening strategic relationships with federal public health agencies, primarily the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to pursue opportunities for IDSA input into federal decision-making.
  • Develops and strengthens strategic relationships with entities engaged in infectious diseases health policy, including associations and societies, advocacy organizations, and industry.  Represents IDSA in relevant policy coalitions.

Other Responsibilities

  • Support the Senior Vice President in staffing the IDSA Antimicrobial Resistance Committee, which leads IDSA policy and advocacy activities to combat antimicrobial resistance in human health through stewardship, surveillance, prevention and the research and development of new antibiotics and novel therapeutics.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in public health, public policy, or related field preferred
  • Four (4) years of progressive health policy experience, including policy analysis, research and development, and work with committees and with governmental and non-governmental entities. Experience working with CDC helpful
  • Physician association or nonprofit experience helpful
  • Knowledge of healthcare industry and infectious diseases
