Job Description:

Main responsibilities / job expectations

  • Identify current and potential national, regional and local thought-leaders for participation in marketing and other commercial initiatives in rare disease areas of interest to Ipsen.
  • Engage with US based current and potential thought-leaders on marketing and other commercial initiatives guided by Ipsen policies and SOPs.
  • Provide, proactively and in response to requests, relevant, approved disease and product information.
  • Work with regional and local thought leaders to educate on disease and appropriate use of Ipsen products.
  • Conduct surveys of HCPs on behalf of Marketing according to specific guidelines and approvals to inform education regarding disease and product information; capture the feedback and report per instructions.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance Ipsen’s reputation among relevant thought-leaders as an innovative leader in rare diseases
  • Manage the identification, contracting, training and follow-up process for speakers involved in company-organized education aka speaker programs.  This may include compliance training as directed by Ipsen Compliance.
  • Attend, as observer only, speaker programs and identify areas for enhancement in logistics, content, and speaker training, including needs for additional compliance training.
  • Support Marketing in the organization of Commercial Advisory Boards.  This may involve identification of potential advisors based on defined criteria, coordination of logistics, and follow-up if appropriate.  Unless specifically approved by Legal, Area Disease Managers generally do not attend Advisory Boards.
  • Lead regional and local advocacy efforts with relevant professional HCP organizations.  Maintain close collaboration with Ipsen’s Patient Education group, which is accountable for leading local efforts to engage with and facilitate patient education.
  • Engage with regional and local HCP advocacy organizations in conjunction with Patient Advocacy and following guidelines and SOPs.
  • Manage and orchestrate Marketing and Commercial leadership engagements at national, regional and local opportunities with thought-leaders and professional organizations, including conferences, conventions, offices and other appropriate venues.
  • The Area Disease Manager is also accountable for some or all of:
    • Attend scientific conferences to gather relevant information as feedback to Marketing
    • Support the development and execution of the Annual Congress Plan
    • Identify thought-leaders for content development and other promotional projects (i.e., speaker presentations, video shoots, digital content, internal training, etc.) 
    • Support the development of Marketing programs by providing perspectives from thought-leaders
    • Support the development of materials to be used with HCPs
    • Support training of other field Commercial colleagues
  • This is not a promotional selling role and is not directly accountable for delivery of sales goals.
  • Act in full compliance with all laws, regulations and policies.
  • Utilize only approved resources and messages to perform function responsibilities.
  • It is the responsibility of all company employees who receive information pertaining to a possible adverse event (AE) or serious adverse event (SAE) to understand that the appropriate clinical and regulatory personal must be notified of the event promptly upon receipt regardless of severity.

Experience and Education

Incumbents should have, as a minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • MBA, MSc, PhD, Nursing and other advanced degrees are a plus
  • Minimum 10 years life-sciences experience, including at least 5 in rare or specialty areas, and at least 3 years in specialty biopharma sales, thought-leader management or as Medical Science Liaison
  • Very strong clinical acumen and ability to articulate scientific concepts and data
  • Experience in relevant therapeutic area a plus
  • Demonstrated understanding of the payer and clinical landscape, especially in specialty & rare diseases
  • Proven patient centricity demonstrated by empathy, understanding and commitment to support
  • Superior presentation, organization, administration and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently (subject to policies and procedures) with minimum administrative support
  • Demonstrated abilities to interact with internal and external stakeholders, including marketing, medical affairs, thought leaders, HCP organizations, and others
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills and ability to navigate difficult conversations
  • Strong understanding and ability to lead within the life-sciences compliance environment
  • Proven track record for consistently meeting or exceeding quantitative and qualitative goals
  • Demonstrated commitment to not only being accountable for own compliance, but also for championing compliance by others.
