MBI is seeking a Bioprocess Technician to join our Bioprocess Technology team. This individual will support the R&D platform for fermentation and downstream separations development, including general operations in the lab. The role reports to the fermentation scientist. The successful candidate will take initiative to learn new skills and possess strong mechanical aptitude, work schedule flexibility, creativity, and the ability to work well in a team or independent setting.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Perform sampling and in-process testing
• Prepare and autoclave media and solutions
• Clean, sterilize and operate fermentors and shake flasks as directed
• Operate centrifuges, filtration units and other bioprocess equipment
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the lab
• Maintain an accurate, up-to-date, witnessed, written account of experimental protocols and results
• Other duties to support operations as assigned
• Follow guidelines for safe lab procedures as outlined by the MBI Safety Manual
• Model MBI’s values, including integrity, respect, and accountability

Qualifications

• High School Diploma with more than 5 years academic or industrial experience in biotechnology or Associate Degree in Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, or a related technical field with more than 2 years’ experience in biotechnology.
• Available to work Monday to Friday on swing shift, 11:00 am – 7:30 pm with flexibility to work 3:30 pm – 12:00 am if needed
• Good interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Good attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records of work performed
• Good time-management and organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task
• Experience performing aseptic/sterile operations and/or working in a lab is preferred

   

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

• Be able to occasionally work on repetitive tasks in a multi-functional lab
• Must have good manual dexterity and eye sight sufficient to handle small items and be able to perform light physical, non-strenuous daily activities of a productive/technical nature
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
• Must be able to sit or stand for up to 4-hour intervals
