Assistant Athletic Trainer

The Athletics Department at Marymount California University is seeking qualified candidates for an Assistant Athletic Trainer. Responsibilities of this position include providing athletic training services to University athletes for all sports at practices and games, determining course of treatments for injured athletes, consulting head trainer and/or referring to team physician as needed, and maintaining athletic training equipment and supplies. This position is a full-time regular, 10 month position. Schedule will be determined by the head athletic trainer, to fit the needs of the athletes for treatments, practice, and game coverage.

SOME ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

• Assist with continued development of the sports medicine program for the University.
• Provide athletic training services for the University’s Athletic Department, for all sports: men’s soccer, women’s soccer, indoor women’s volleyball, men’s cross country/track, women’s cross country and track, surf, baseball, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s golf and women’s golf, e-sports.
• Attendance at scheduled team practices; attendance at all home and some away competitions as necessary, administering emergency first aid and CPR/AED.
• Prevention and care of athletic injuries and illnesses.
• Evaluation of athletic injuries.
• Apply protective and therapeutic taping, wrapping, bandaging, bracing and other protective devices to prevent injury to student-athlete.
• Assist team physician with pre-participation physical examinations.
• Refer student-athletes to team physician, specialist, emergency room, or allied health care provider when appropriate.
• Maintain medical records including injury records, treatment records, physical examinations, and health insurance forms for all athletes.
• Assist with education and mitigation of Covid 19. Assist with Covid-19 testing, tracking results, and contact tracing as necessary.
• Assist Head Athletic Trainer in development and implementation of rehabilitation programs individualized to student-athletes under prescribed guidelines by team physicians.
• Work in conjunction with the coaching staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and strength & conditioning programs emphasizing preventative medicine tailored to student-athlete needs.
• Maintain athletic training room cleanliness, equipment upkeep and supplies.
• Meet NATA continuing education requirements.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in appropriate area of specialization and 1-2 year(s) professional experience. Master’s degree preferred.
• Must possess and maintain NATABOC certification and be in good standing and current certification in CPR/AED for the professional rescuer and first aid.
• Familiarity with NAIA and NCAA governing rules.
• Possess a valid driver’s license and a vehicle with ability to transport sports-medicine equipment: med bag, crutch & splint bag, coolers, etc. to offsite games & practices.
