Manager of External Affairs
Hired by, reports to, and evaluated by Head of School and COTO. Works closely with The New York Foundling’s communications and development team.
The role of Manager of External Affairs is an integral part of the school’s educational program. This person coordinates all press and media relations, external program partnerships, and marketing and communications initiatives. This person also leads the school’s research initiatives, and works with the board and other internal and external stakeholders to share our practices and our model. Candidate must have strong writing and proofreading skills, and should also be an entrepreneurial self-starter and team player with good interpersonal skills and a commitment to Haven Academy’s work and mission.
Responsibilities:
● Design, write, execute, and manage the development and distribution of print and electronic materials including, but not limited to, website, social media, brochures, overviews, newsletters, case studies, field research.
Identify and manage external relations opportunities for Haven Academy, including managing press and media, social media, leading school tours, and facilitating partnerships with external organizations.
● Coordinate data collection for school initiatives connected to the school’s unique model, used for external communications and donor reporting.
● Cultivate partnerships with research organizations and other program-level partners.
● Serve as the organizational liaison for program-level partnerships and volunteer initiatives.
● Coordinate with The New York Foundling’s development team to support fundraising initiatives and donor communications for Haven Academy.
● Become well versed in Haven Academy’s work, collaborating closely with school staff in order to best identify and craft case studies and press pitches about Haven Academy and the impact of its work.
● Coordinate information sharing about Haven Academy, including calls, emails, presentations, and tours.
● Act as the day-to-day liaison for the Board of Trustees, including coordinating schedules, taking meeting minutes, and maintaining records.
● Coordinate and oversee internal and public relations events.
Qualifications:
● Three or more years of experience in communications, journalism, or a related field
● Bachelor’s Degree Required; Master’s Degree preferred
● Demonstrable track record of successful work in branding campaigns, writing, and media placement (portfolio and writing samples will be required during the hiring process).
● Outstanding oral, written, and public speaking skills
● Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills
● Exceptional detail and organizational abilities
● A professional, positive, flexible attitude
● Have proven ability to operate independently, apply sound judgment, and maintain strict confidentiality when necessary
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Salary ranges between 65-75k based on previous experience, with full benefits and 403b package.
