What does an Campus Ministry Administrative Assistant do at companies like NATIONAL SCHOOL PROJECT?

National School Project is looking for staff to help bring Christ to millions of students. Are you one of them?
The National School Project is a rapidly growing ministry working to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to every high school in California, Illinois, and the nation. Our tagline – ’til every student has heard – is wide open and huge, and that’s how we operate. For the past 15 years, our team has been learning how to equip high school students as the leaders of a movement to reach the next generation for Christ, and we’ve seen amazing success. All glory to God, it’s been a wild ride and a thrilling place to work. In the next three years, we seek to give 1 million students in 12 major cities across the nation the opportunity to hear the gospel. We are looking for leaders who want to help make that happen and are willing to trust God to raise the support to fund their positions (see more on that below).

About the Job. The Campus Ministry Administrative Assistant will take lead on the logistics and events to support the work of NSP’s Illinois Campus Ministry Team. Your job will have two main functions:

  • Administration – you’ll assist the Illinois team, particularly its director, with planning, registrations, material inventory, supplies, printing, and other tasks that the team needs in order to thrive.

  • Events – you'll be responsible to assist both the IL State Director and the Development Team with their events by coordinating logistics. These events range from large, overnight training events to fundraiser banquets to smaller team gatherings.

Day to day responsibilities: You’ll work out of our office in Carol Stream, IL, alongside our Campus Ministry team. Most of your time will be in the office, assisting the Illinois Director, researching venues, coordinating meals, arranging transportation, etc. Additionally, you’ll head out several times per month to scout locations, meet with vendors, collaborate with our volunteers, or run other errands.

  • Provide logistical support for planning and executing major IL Campus Ministry Events and national training events, including venue, food, transportation, supplies, etc.
  • Assist with logistical support for implementing select Development Events as needed
  • Serve as Midwest office manager, ensuring a functional office for the staff who operate there.
  • Supplies procurement, cleaning service liaison, first impressions, etc.

Qualities we’re looking for: Hey, future Admin Assistant, you might be the right fit for this job if you possess many of the qualities listed below.

  • Experience: Administrative or event planning experience in some form is required; church or non-profit event planning is a huge plus.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required
  • You’re thorough and logistical, able to think through the 100 details needed to pull off something seemingly simple.
  • You’re relational. You’ll be in close contact with lots of our key supporters, and you’ll help get them more involved through events.
  • You’re very flexible. Because this is open-ended service, rather than a closed set of predefined tasks, you are ready and able to drop everything and start something new, or go back to the beginning and start over.
  • You enjoy problem-solving. You get excited with figuring out how to beat a challenge rather than frustrated by them.
  • You have lots of initiative. As you learn, you’ll begin to see things that need doing and you’ll just do them.
  • You aim to please. Among the things that bring you joy is working and reworking a product or a process to satisfy someone else. Exacting standards don’t frustrate you; they motivate you.
  • You’re highly responsible and follow through on all projects.
  • You are praying for the great commission, and can’t think of a better way to be part of the mission of Christ than by helping NSP’s team effectively advance the kingdom for years to come.
  • Your writing is clear and crisp, and often fun, but you can turn on a professional tone when it counts.
  • You’re a practical planner - the one among your friends who figures out how the whole group will get where you’re going, and exactly when you need to leave.
  • You have a ‘yes attitude’ and thrive on finding ways to make people happy and their jobs easier.
  • You’re friendly and cheerful to talk to, especially on the phone, and you don’t get flustered too easily.
  • You have a good sense of humor because work is fun.
  • You’re able to multitask, focusing on several projects at a time before any one of those projects come to completion.
  • Large spreadsheets full of names and numbers aren’t daunting for you. In fact, you kind of enjoy a morning spent with a cup of coffee and a good spreadsheet.
  • You like tackling new projects, figuring out the best way to accomplish something you’ve never done before and taking it from start to finish.
  • You understand that administration is a tool to accelerate the great commission, not the point of ministry.

Compensation and Support Raising

NSP’s non-profit ministry model is fueled by prayer and grassroots support of the Body of Christ. Most roles our in organization are funded through support raising - wherein staff members gather commitments of monthly donations from their personal network to send them into the mission field. Through this model, God has provided stable jobs and lasting work for over 100 employees in the past 15 years.

This role will be partially funded and partially support raised at a two-thirds to one-third ratio. Just like missionaries about to be sent across the world, your first assignment on NSP staff will be to personally contact churches, friends, and family, and gather a team of monthly financial supporters to invest in the ministry God is leading you into. We’ll give you tons of training, encouragement, and ongoing coaching. If you like everything else and feel like this could be a good fit for you, do not let support raising stop you; let’s talk first.

The big question: Is this the mission field for you?

You may have a lot of questions. This may be unlike most jobs you've considered. That's OK. The most important question - the one you should pray about, and the one that we'll be asking - is whether or not you can get excited and remain deeply motivated to reach this generation of students for Christ. Without the gospel, 3.3 million students are graduating high school every year, lost and without hope in the world. We want to fix that. Is this your mission field?

If you don't know for sure, that's OK. Get started with the process and let's talk. Just fill out the short form, and we'll be in touch.
