The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for creating, coordinating and executing all community initiatives to achieve our goals and build awareness of Riverside Transit Agency.
The following duties are standard for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.
Represents the Agency to the public through a planned program utilizing public presentations; community events; special programs; business, community and organization partnerships; social media; and public information dissemination to accomplish Agency and department objectives. Assists in developing and implementing promotional campaigns, events and activities to enhance RTA's reputation and visibility, support Agency programs and initiatives, and increase ridership. Assists with marketing, community outreach and customer relations activities.
The
Community Engagement Coordinator is a member of the marketing department. He or she is responsible for developing strategies to increase followers on sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube by outlining a campaign calendar and conceptualizing tactics to increase audience participation. This person is also the voice of those public sites, actively engaging followers in a dialogue in an effort to transform visitors into advocates for the brand. The
Community Engagement Coordinator will collaborate with all Agency departments to create relevant content and interactive media experiences through social media sites.
This position carries with it the great responsibility of properly representing the Riverside Transit Agency its products to the public. What you say online is a reflection on the work of hundreds of other people, so a high degree of tact and professionalism is expected, even in the casual environment of social media. Hours will be highly irregular, including working some weekends, early mornings and evenings.
He or she is expected to deliver regular updates to superiors concerning traffic and conversion of visitors, and will submit new development plans for approval by manager.
Coordinator will work collaboratively with colleagues from across the organization to promote the goals, messages, image and awareness regarding public transportation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Manage the planning, implementation and evaluation of RTA's community outreach and external partnerships and relationships to increase ridership and revenues and build community awareness and support. Implement broad and targeted marketing, community and social outreach activities to increase ridership and gain public support.
Ability to coordinate community events, expos, ribbon cuttings, receptions, parades and more for Riverside Transit Agency. Ability to coordinate with colleagues to promote the events and prepare needed materials.
Communicates the services of RTA to its passengers, public and potential riders by assisting with developing and implementing various marketing, promotional and public relations campaigns.
Perform community outreach activities, including developing and giving community presentations and providing information at community expos, fairs and tradeshows to enhance the visibility, positive image and understanding of the Agency and its services in the community.
Recommend and process requests for event participation that will provide the greatest benefit and exposure for RTA. Plan and coordinate all aspects of service/event including special vehicle requests, parades, display tables, promotional items, etc. Assure that RTA receives maximum visibility and recognition from event organizers in all event-related materials and announcements.
Develop and expand contacts with local high schools, colleges and universities. Coordinate events and presentations as needed.
Assist in planning, creating and implementing Agency marketing, promotional and media plans and campaigns that will drive a favorable brand image of RTA and increase ridership among target markets.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - Associate degree and two years of work experience in Marketing, Communications, or Public Relations is required.
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in business, marketing, communications or related field.Two years' experience in customer service, community relations or marketing or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- The coordinator must have expertise in the use of online networking sites and be proficient in standard Office software applications. He or she should possess the ability to plan sharp, innovative marketing and advertising strategies, and be able to quickly adapt those strategies in response to consumer feedback. Engaging with the public requires respectful and effective communication, and a "voice" personable enough to retain visitors through one-on-one interaction.
LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to write clear and precise programs. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, employees or external organizations. Possess excellent customer relations skills.
Bilingual (Spanish) speaking, reading and writing skills are required. MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight, measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSMust possess and maintain a valid California driver's license.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIESKnowledge of the principles and practices of marketing. Ability to type 45 wpm. Ability to read and interpret maps and timetables. Ability to use a PC. Ability to maintain records and prepare reports. Knowledge of Riverside city streets and surrounding area. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and interact with the public. Ability to perform multiple tasks, set priorities and work independently.
