About:

The nonprofit San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living serves a significant number of patients and long-term care/skilled nursing residents each year in its Jewish Home & Rehab Center. Non-residential care is offered through our short-term and rehabilitation services unit for patients who require specialized interdisciplinary rehabilitation to recover from surgery or an acute illness, and through our acute geriatric psychiatry hospital. With a complement of close to 650 compassionate, experienced clinical and allied health personnel, SFCJL provides older adults with a variety of life-enriching healthcare programs and services in a welcoming, stimulating environment.

SFCJL’s transformed campus includes the new Lynne & Roy M. Frank Residences (assisted living apartments and memory care & support assisted living suites), and Byer Square, a non-residential community of programs, services, and support.

Position Overview:

The Life Enrichment Coordinator is responsible for planning and conducting meaningful activities with residents. The program includes providing both group, one-on-one, and self-directed activities for senior adults.

Essential Functions:

• Provide an opportunity for socializing and encouraging relationships among residents/patients.
• Create a positive, caring, and stimulating environment.
• Re-motivate residents/patients to become actively involved in life, by contributing toward a renewal of physical, mental, and social abilities.
• Respond to the needs and abilities of the residents/patients, which may vary, and must be able to carry out activities with these differences in mind.
• Provide one-to-one relationships with the patients/residents who decline to participate in group activities, or who are unable to attend group activities.
• Fulfill important emotional needs, towards residents/patients, by providing support in times of crisis and help with problems in daily living.
• Responsible for timely completion of resident’s/patient’s records to include attendance record and other activity notes as deemed appropriate.
• Work closely with other departments in the Home nursing, Dietary, Rehab, and Volunteers, discharge planners, case managers, etc.
• May supervise student interns and volunteers who are involved with activities.
• Consultation with the resident’s/patient’s family members.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in an area related to the field (recreational therapy, psychology, health care, geriatrics, social work, or recreation administration) preferred
• Experience working within a geriatric group and related field.
• Recreation Therapy certification preferred
• Experience working with psychiatric patients preferred
• Sound group work, organizational, and communication skills.
• A creative, flexible, energetic, enthusiastic, resourceful, self-motivated, innovative thinker, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively, independently, and within an interdisciplinary teamwork approach.
• Russian bilingual preferred not required
• Must be sensitive to varying levels of physical and emotional health.
• Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds, cultures, religions, etc.
