What does an Service Manager do at companies like SEWER EQUIPMENT?

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop a close working relationship with dealer service teams to achieve service sales goals and objectives, while maintaining network consistency
  • Assist dealer personnel in identifying and developing key service accounts
  • Drive field service revenue growth
  • Prepare quotation for customer service work, chargebacks and send to customers within 24 hours
  • Analyze and process warranty claims
  • Be the point person to resolve disputes with regarding warranty and service
  • Create and present weekly warranty issue report
  • Organize, schedule and deliver service and maintenance training classes held at corporate headquarters
  • Construct and assign weekly schedules to complete field service work and warranty service jobs
  • Developing schedules for units needing service and PM work
  • Prepare monthly Service Jobs Summary report
  • Weekly conference call with technical support and field service staff to review weekly activity and issues
  • Schedule and coordinate all service work with outside service providers and chassis dealers
  • Execute monthly cycle counts to ensure field service parts inventory accuracy
  • Maintain field service technician e-logs, DOT files, and service vehicle repair and maintenance information. Keep track of when inspections are due on field service vehicles.
  • Use M2M, Aptean and Excel software to maintain field service inventories
  • Plan and manage the annual budget
  • Ensure all policies and procedures are being followed
  • Evaluate the performance of team members and provide regular feedback and development talks
  • Develop/implement standard service offers and service procedures for direct customers and dealers
  • Develop, maintain and update any internal procedures for training, technical support, warranty and field service
  • Spend adequate time in the field to ensure efficient and safe work practices are followed
  • Travel to customer, dealer and trade-show locations as needed (<5% travel required)

Job Requirements

  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Knowledge of and ability to troubleshoot and diagnose hydraulic and electrical systems
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical data, drawings, and schematics
  • Sound knowledge of and familiarity with truck engine and chassis systems
  • Demonstrated computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Ability to learn quickly and resolve unique service challenges
  • Must be very organized and possess the ability to multi-task
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work and lead as part of a team
  • Establishes credibility and trust easily, respects confidentiality and ethical standards

Desired Education and Experience

  • 2-year technical school degree or 4-year college degree a plus
  • 3 or more years' experience in a service supervisor or management role
  • 3 or more years of industrial equipment, heavy equipment or heavy truck experience
  • Experience as a mechanic desired, but not required
  • 2 or more years of continued education in business or management fields or applicable areas preferred
