The Speed Art Museum is Kentucky’s largest art museum with a collection that spans 6,000 years of human creativity. An independent museum located on the campus of the University of Louisville, the Speed has recently undergone a multi-phase expansion and renovation that includes a new North Building, state-of-the-art Cinema, Art Park and a public piazza. The Speed Art Museum has repeatedly been voted Kentucky's best museum and is considered one of the top ten sites each Kentuckian should visit. The Speed honors its mission to bring great art to our communities through its distinguished collections and as the Commonwealth's number one venue for international art exhibitions.

Job Skills / Requirements

The Marketing and Communications Assistant will assist the Marketing Project Manager with all social media and communications content initiatives across multiple platforms and formats to drive engagement, storytelling, and awareness of the Museum. This individual is confident in navigating social media content and strategy, email marketing, and data reporting. Must have excellent written communication skills, an eye for visuals, a sense of brand consistency, and ability to research and adapt digital marketing strategy. The position collaborates with all departments, especially marketing, curatorial, advancement, and leadership teams, to tell the story of the Museum on our digital platforms.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • With the Marketing Project Manager, develops a content strategy for social media that highlights all essential messages of the Museum, determining which methods work for the brand and why.
  • Track and report on social media, website, and email marketing insights.
  • Conducts ongoing research and tests to gauge content effectiveness. Gathers data and analytics and makes recommendations based on those results.
  • Assists in the development of social media content initiatives to drive new guests and current members to the Museum and increase their sense of interest and connection to the Speed.
  • Ensures that all content is on brand, engaging, informative, and consistent in terms of style and tone.
  • Represents and promotes the Museum during virtual, internal, and external events.
  • Helps to develops and maintain a functional content calendar to implement the content strategy for all departments.
  • Uses best practices in grammar, messaging, writing, and style, adhering to the Speed Style Guide.
  • Creates plans for live posting from important Museum events and programs, being available and visible to post from these events.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience in social media writing and coordination required, management preferred.
  • Experience in project management preferred.
  • Experience in promotion and/or public relations preferred.
  • Excellent writing and marketing communications skills.

Essential Skills

  • Proficient in social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.), Microsoft Office software, and other software as needed.
  • Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical skills to provide project evaluations and assessment of results.
  • Effective skills in project management.
  • Ability to make decisions, plan, organize, and manage under pressure.
  • Knowledge of Museum Ethics, published by the American Association of Museums, and Professional Practices in Art Museums, published by the Association of Art Museum Director.
  • Interest in art.
  • Flexible schedule, including evening and weekend availability.
  • Supports and facilitates positive interaction with others by exhibiting individual maturity, respect for others, a team-centered approach, maintenance of confidential information, and an awareness and sensitivity to cultural and other differences in our staff, board members, contributors, volunteers, and the public.
  • Must be an energetic self-starter, able to work with little supervision, show attention to detail, and possess excellent organizational skills. Ability to work accurately and efficiently and keep track of numerous projects simultaneously.
  • Presents a professional image in work attire and demeanor.
  • Ability to function independently and be flexible for interruptions and changing priorities.

Work Environment

  • Able to adapt to and work from various locations so the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Willing, as necessary, to work beyond normal working hours, on weekends, and remains accessible when away from the Museum so the requirements of this position can be fully met.

Physical Demands

  • Extensive use of telephone and computer throughout the workday.
  • Sits, reaches, walks, climbs, and lifts intermittently throughout the workday so the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Communicates using English language.
  • Sees and hears or uses prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Able to lift, push, pull, and move equipment, supplies, etc., of twenty-five (25) pounds throughout the workday.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • This is a full-time exempt position.
