Frequency of Pay: Bi-weekly

Salary: $40,000 

Benefits: Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, a 401k plan, and paid time off. 

Schedule: 5 days, may include weekends and some evenings, 50+ hours/week

The Crop Farmer will be an integral part of the field and greenhouse operations in collaboration with the Crop Manager, Greenhouse Manager and team. The Crop Farmer will work within an integrated team of farmers, researchers, and other experts to further the development of a resilient agro-ecological system, explore symbiotic relationships between animals, plant-base, and soil ecology, and contribute to farm innovation and experimentation.This position will also work directly with interns, volunteers and guests on the property.

This is an entry-level role for which previous experience is valued, though not required. A demonstrated commitment to learning new skills and supporting team members is essential for this role and will be prioritized above previous experience. Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily support for all necessary & specific production activities associated with outdoor vegetable & flower cropping systems
  • Assist in field prep, plantings, cultivation, irrigation, maintenance, harvesting and post harvesting processes
  • Safely use, operate and maintain tractors, agricultural implements, power equipment, and hand tools
  • Follow and maintain relevant crop records for field production [all field crop plans, planting and harvest notes]
  • Coordinate with Crop & Greenhouse Managers to fulfill harvest lists and delivery schedules with Residency and Labs programs
  • Assist with programs including weekly chefs chores, organized tours, Lab programming, adult education, public interpretation and potential off-farm programming
  • Assist in Lab development projects (breeding, crop trialing, preservation, arts & ecology) 
  • Will be required to perform any other job-related duties assigned. This job description may be revised from time to time.

 

This is a highly physical role. While performing these job duties, the employee is regularly required to see and reach.  The employee is regularly required to sit, walk, and stand for long periods of time (e.g., up to 8 hours or longer) and to don appropriate personal protective equipment in response to COVID-19, including face coverings and gloves.  The employee is required to use dominant hand coordination for simple grasping, pushing/pulling, and fine manipulation.  The employee is also required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, bend, squat, kneel, and reach above shoulder level.  The employee may be exposed to extreme temperatures, dust, dampness, moving machinery, food allergens, and cleaning agents.  Due to the nature of the farming industry, the employee may be required to work longer hours and varying schedules to reflect the business needs, which may include overtime, weekends, and holidays.  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.  Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job, so long as they do not cause undue hardship.
