The Crop Farmer will be an integral part of the field and greenhouse operations in collaboration with the Crop Manager, Greenhouse Manager and team. The Crop Farmer will work within an integrated team of farmers, researchers, and other experts to further the development of a resilient agro-ecological system, explore symbiotic relationships between animals, plant-base, and soil ecology, and contribute to farm innovation and experimentation.This position will also work directly with interns, volunteers and guests on the property.
This is an entry-level role for which previous experience is valued, though not required. A demonstrated commitment to learning new skills and supporting team members is essential for this role and will be prioritized above previous experience. Responsibilities:
This is a highly physical role. While performing these job duties, the employee is regularly required to see and reach. The employee is regularly required to sit, walk, and stand for long periods of time (e.g., up to 8 hours or longer) and to don appropriate personal protective equipment in response to COVID-19, including face coverings and gloves. The employee is required to use dominant hand coordination for simple grasping, pushing/pulling, and fine manipulation. The employee is also required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, bend, squat, kneel, and reach above shoulder level. The employee may be exposed to extreme temperatures, dust, dampness, moving machinery, food allergens, and cleaning agents. Due to the nature of the farming industry, the employee may be required to work longer hours and varying schedules to reflect the business needs, which may include overtime, weekends, and holidays.
