The above salary range is based on the work performed and the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Upon hire, new employees are typically started at the beginning of the range and is dependent upon experience and other qualifications for the position. 


POSITION DESCRIPTION:


The Visitor Service Officer provides security for the facility and ensures the safety of the exhibits, art objects, visitors and staff. The Visitor Service Officer will provide a welcoming experience at the Center & Gardens, Historic House and Grounds. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Monitors all entry points of the Center & Gardens and Historic Estate to prevent unauthorized access into the facility.
  • Monitors and controls visitor flow into the Center & Garden spaces at entry and exit points. Reports any issues with visitors flow to Supervisors.
  • Collaborates with and supports the Director and Deputy Director of the Center and Gardens to ensure delivery of high quality visitor experiences through outstanding customer service and identification of opportunities to strengthen visitor experiences.
  • Develop a good working knowledge of the facility, the exhibits, and activities taking place within the Center & Gardens and Historic Estate.
  • Provide visitors and guests with relevant information regarding tours, special events, programs and The Annenberg Foundation Trust at Sunnylands, while maintaining a courteous and helpful attitude at all times.
  • Accurately answers visitor questions regarding topics including: general information about Annenberg history, the Historic Estate, the Center and Gardens and exhibits by utilizing information received during training.
  • Assists visitors with finding their way around the Center and Gardens.
  • Enforce the policies and procedures of the Center & Gardens and Historic Estate as directed by the Director, Security.
  • Effectively and courteously, communicate with visitors and guests, as necessary, to ensure that exhibits and art objects are not moved or handled inappropriately risking safety and condition.
  • Monitor activity in assigned areas and immediately report any discrepancies observed in regards to exhibits, art objects, lighting, facility, etc.
  • Provides information and monitors conduct of visitors in adherence to site rules at assigned posts.
  • Exercises judgement in balancing competing demands, complex operational needs and priorities and professional, high quality visitor response.
  • Keep radio traffic and volume to a minimum so as not to disturb guests or other staff.
  • Must have Physical ability to perform life saving techniques, CPR and First Aid and the ability to utilize emergency equipment such as fire extinguishers.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide direction for guests and staff in case of fire or other emergencies requiring evacuation.
  • Escort staff, guides, volunteers and guests to or from parking lots upon request.
  • Responds to visitor concerns and complaints by using instruction and information received during training. Reports any concerns to Supervisors timely and efficiently.
  • Provide Director, Security with incident reports when they occur within the premises of the Center & Gardens and Historic Estate.
  • Make visitor and guest safety a top priority.
  • Required to work weekdays, weekends, evenings and maintain flexible hours/shifts.
  • Never leave your post until properly relieved by your replacement or ordered to do so by your supervisor. Work over or work an extra shift, on occasion, if it becomes necessary to cover the post.
  • Ensure uniform and personal appearance is clean and professional and adhere to Trust policy.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Director, Security.

  • Dependable and punctual with a neat and appropriate appearance (uniforms provided)

  • Ability to speak and interact comfortably with diverse groups
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

QUALIFICATIONS: 


  • High school diploma or general education (GED) required
  • Possession of guard certificate from the State of California within 30 days of hire is required
  • Possession of CPR and First Aid training and certification within 30 days of hire is required
  • Valid and unencumbered California driver's license 
  • Knowledge and/or experience of enforcement of fire, safety and security measures are necessary
  • Must have excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Work independently and as part of a team
  • Prior police officer training or senior security officer experience preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand, walk, read, hear, talk, balance, climb, use hands, use fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push or pull. The employee may be required to move or lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus. While performing duties in this position, the employee will work outdoors and may be exposed to wet and/or hot conditions, moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, sharp objects, extreme heat and/or open flame. The noise environment in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. The employee may operate a golf cart, shuttle or motor vehicle.
