TrailStone is looking for a Junior Risk Analyst to join their team in either Austin or New York. This role reports to our Global Head of Risk and some prior experience in energy commodities is required for this role.

Job Title: Junior Risk Analyst

Location: Austin, TX or New York, NY


  • Develop, implement, and maintain quantitative measures such as PFE, VaR, Stress Test and Capital models to assess firm’s market and credit risk
    • Identify market risk factors for various financial products and build models to capture economic and statistical characteristics
    • Implement and operationalize models in production risk system
    • Design and implement various reports that disseminate analysis to various stakeholders
  • Coordinate risk reporting logistics across multiple groups, including quants, technology, credit and finance
  • Communicate clearly complex mathematical concepts with internal and external stakeholders
  • Perform quantitative risk analysis for a variety of financial derivatives, including exotic products

Minimum Technical Qualifications:

  • Strong quantitative skills with a bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline (Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Physics, Engineering)
  • Excellent command of mathematics, modeling and numerical techniques.  In particular, knowledge of probability and statistics.
  • Experience programming in Python

Preferred Technical Qualifications:

  • Masters or PhD in a quantitative discipline
  • Experience with commodities risk
  • Expert-level Python programmer with experience using various mainstream scientific computing packages (pandas, numpy, statsmodels, matplotlib, PyXLL)
