What does a Claims Service Representative do at companies like UPC INSURANCE?



Summary: Responsible for performing a variety of assigned customer service and clerical support tasks in an efficient manner.


This is a Full-Time position in St. Petersburg, FL.Hours are: 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM; Monday through Friday


Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Process centralized email tasks and all other incoming mail and related communication.
  • Assist answering and properly directing in-coming calls pertaining to the appropriate Claims Department personnel, while offering general assistance to customers as needed.
  • Update newly reported claim file with uploaded declarations pages, run ISO reports, properly document policy coverages and endorsements as it pertains to each claim file.
  • Helps train and mentor new Claims Service Representatives.
  • Assist processing mail, as needed.
  • Other related job functions, special assignments and less significant responsibilities as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None


Education and/or Experience: 

  • Associates degree; two years of relevant prior work experience and high school diploma; or combination thereof.

Required Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a high degree of accuracy and completeness of information.
  • Ability to multi-task and be flexible according to staffing needs and work volume.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Use of proper phone etiquette.
  • Good customer service and listening skills for both external and internal customers.
  • Prefer, but not required - bilingual, fluent in Spanish.
  • Possesses strong English vocabulary, basic grammar skills, and professional decorum.  Writing is clear and easy-to-read.
  • Ability to prioritize, plan and organize responsibilities.
  • Team player who works well with a wide range of people.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that is subject to frequent changes.
  • Ability to use multiple systems and screens to provide efficient call resolution.
