What does a Machine Operator do at companies like USEMCO?

USEMCO Inc., acknowledged leader in custom design and fabrication of package pump stations and control systems, is seeking a first shift Machine Operator. You would manufacture a wide variety of parts in accordance with customer product specifications. In this position you would be working overtime and some Saturdays. Your starting pay will be $17.77 and depending on what your skills and experience are, you have the potential to increase your starting wage.

In this role you would: 

  • Operate a wide variety of equipment such as hand tools, precision measuring instruments, saws, grinders, drills, mills and manual and CNC lathes etc. Assemble component parts consistent with product blueprints.
  • Work from assembly drawings, specifications, bills of material, and material specifications.
  • Use a variety of precision measuring instruments to set up, fit and check work.  Employ shop mathematics to perform related calculations.
  • Remove finished products from machines, using hand tools, air hoses and other equipment.
  • Perform re-work duties as assigned.
  • File, debur, sand, grind, or polish metal objects.
  • Perform general maintenance of fabricating equipment.
  • Scan in and out of labor collection software, as required, to track work hours.
  • Follow all clean-up and housekeeping procedures.  Comply with all quality, safety, and work rules and regulations.
  • Operate a lift truck.

You should have the following skills and/or experience:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Minimum experience of 2 to 4 years in a manufacturing environment preferred.  
  • 1 to 2 years related experience in CNC machine operation procedures.

You'll gain loads of experience in a fast paced environment but before you do, you should have: 

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and written materials relating to fabrication set up and operation and safety procedures. 
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide and use shop mathematics to set up and perform fabrication and machining work.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must possess considerable mechanical aptitude and the ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to operate a wide variety of equipment such as hand tools, precision measuring instruments, saws, grinders, drills, mills and lathes. 
  • Ability to operate manual and CNC lathe, mills etc.

Your work environment: While performing the duties of this job, you would regularly work near moving mechanical parts.  You will occasionally work in proximity to fumes and airborne particles and near sources of vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Safety is very important: You must to wear safety glasses and a protective face shield, safety shoes, ear protection, protective clothing, leather gloves, hard hat, and a welding helmet, as required.
