The Auto Tech/Mechanic II performs major repairs like body work, chassis and engine repair, and disassembling and assembling components. Performs maintenance and repairs on automobiles and light trucks. Being an Auto Tech/Mechanic II helps diagnose issues, uses electronic indicator systems to identify problems, and performs routine safety checks on brakes, suspension, exhaust, cooling, and other systems. Also performs minor repairs and maintenance work such as replacing worn drive belts, hoses, and filters. In addition, Auto Tech/Mechanic II adheres to appropriate safety procedures. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically requires a Certificate in Automotive Technology. Typically reports to a supervisor. Being an Auto Tech/Mechanic II works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Working as an Auto Tech/Mechanic II typically requires 1-3 years of related experience, or may need 0 years of experience with additional specialized training and/or certification.
