The Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nurse monitors vital signs, administers medications, including intravenous medications, and develops patient care plans in conjunction with surgeons and anesthesiologists. Provides professional nursing care to assigned post-operative patients. Being a Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nurse observes patients' progress, records observations in patient medical records, and updates attending physicians directly when necessary. Provides support to patients waking up from anesthesia, including bandage maintenance, pain management, nausea treatment, and ensuring patients receive adequate rest, fluids and nutrients. In addition, Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nurse teaches patients how to clean bandages, take medication, and follow post-surgical care instructions. Requires graduation from an approved nursing program. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Requires a state license to practice. Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nurse's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.
