The Vet Tech collects and documents case history and treatment details. Assist veterinarian with exams, surgeries, and first aid. Being a Vet Tech take X rays, EKG, Ultrasound, and perform various lab test including urinalysis and blood counts. Monitors vital signs and condition of animals being treated and provides nursing care. In addition, Vet Tech depending on state regulations, may administer anesthesia, injections, and perform dental prophylaxis, catheterization, and other procedures under supervision of a veterinarian. Instructs pet owners on how to administer medication and other animal care skills. Typically requires an associate's degree.
