The Role
The Business Analyst plays a key role in translating end user expectations/outcomes to real design specifications. Aligns with business stakeholders to create 3-year business capability roadmaps that identify enterprise technology solutions that deliver value to clients and position the firm for growth and achievement of its strategic plan. Uses significant independent judgement in solving problems and choosing methods of work. Mentors' others on complex and far reaching technology issues.
Key Responsibilities
Business Technology Definition & Strategy
- Liaison between IT and assigned business areas on projects, minor enhancements and portfolio management .
- Attends business specific meetings (i.e. team, leadership) to engage and understand business day to day operations, build credibility so as to best guide technology solution alignment.
- Consult with customer to proactively identify technology solution opportunities for unique and complex problems that have a broad impact or significant risk to the business.
- Defines, prioritises, and manages program and project initiatives (business and IT).
- Contributes to the creation of project charters, scoping documents and other pre-approval materials for proposed projects.
- Facilitates through governance approval and the hand-off to the Project Manager.
- Accountable for facilitating, developing and representing functional business capability roadmaps.
Solution Logical Design
- Crafts approach (i.e. work sessions, scenarios) to gather high level and detailed design.
- Gathers high-level business requirements and contributes to the definition of scope during initial discovery by conducting meetings/interviews, and facilitating large group/cross-functional sessions with partners.
Business Architecture
- Frames, visually depicts "logical" solutions that aid developers, engineers in translating business needs into viable technology plans.
- Completes root cause analysis and translates outcomes in business consumable language, including translating complex and conceptual ideas.
- Monitors that the solution is meeting the stakeholder's expectations.
- Works cross-team to establish enterprise process management guidelines and framework.
- Ensures business requirements captured during a project are moved into the enterprise process model (EPM) for leverage in future enhancements, training or support work.
- Acts as a consultant to technologists who are evaluating changing/replacing business area technology.
- Develops/manages company end use-cases to help with organizational change management and unique technology solutions (for example: such as desktop images).
- Establishes business integration map that links one business area's processes to another tactically, to provide visibility to impacts when 1 area of business is changed.
