Mechanical Engineer

I am recruiting for a electronic consumer company who are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join their Product Development Team based in the West Midlands. This role is perfect for a motivated individual with a strong passion for sustainable engineering, who is adaptable, innovative, and eager to explore new possibilities.

In this position, you will report to the Product Development Manager and collaborate closely with both the Product Development and Product Management Teams to design and implement solutions that support our sustainability objectives and new product initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop sustainable products and solutions that meet the needs of the company whilst minimising environmental impact.

Conduct research and analysis to identify opportunities for enhancing the sustainability of products and processes.

Perform validation testing and contribute to product development efforts.

Work with cross-functional teams to embed sustainability principles into the product design and development process.

Keep abreast of the latest trends and innovations in sustainability, integrating relevant practices into our design and development activities.

Ensure products are designed to comply with regulatory standards and achieve specified levels of safety, functionality, and reliability.

Create comprehensive manufacturing specifications, including drawings and engineering bills of materials (BOMs).

Ensure design solutions are cost-effective and meet functional requirements.

Provide sustainability metrics to monitor and report on the environmental impact of proposed solutions.Essential Skills and Qualifications

Proven experience in creating sustainable design solutions or working in a design-for-sustainability role.

Experience in designing with plastic materials.

Background in Product Design.

BTEC in Engineering.

Proficiency with 3D CAD software (ideally SolidWorks).

Competence in Microsoft Office applications.

Ability To Produce Detailed Technical Reports.Desirable Skills And Qualifications

BTEC Higher Diploma in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.

Completion of an engineering apprenticeship.

Familiarity with machined brass components and tolerancing.
