Fairfax Multi-Academy Trust – an educational charity and family of schools around the city of Birmingham – is seeking an experienced Finance Assistant to join the team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Providing a proactive and forward-thinking finance service across the Trust and contributing to the overall success of the Finance department.
  • Acting as the first port of call for all incoming queries, responding and escalating where appropriate.
  • Processing purchase orders from requisitions accurately.
  • Raising and processing invoices, ensuring appropriate authorisation and that invoices are paid within specified time limits.
  • Investigating and resolving supplier invoices under query, arranging returns and ensuring that refunds or credit notes are received.
  • Maintaining a detailed record of non-invoiced income relating to extra-curricular clubs, trips, etc., including fundraising initiatives.
  • Assisting in the preparation of academy budgets and in month-end and year-end procedures.
  • Providing high-quality administrative support.


Skills and Experience

  • Experience working in finance (knowledge of Iris Financials, procurement and purchase ledgers desirable).
  • Five GCSEs, including Maths and English at grades 4–9 or equivalent.
  • Commitment to the Trust’s aims and values.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, parents and students.
  • Experience dealing with sensitive and confidential student information.
  • Awareness of child protection/safeguarding with up-to-date training (or a willingness to undertake training).
  • Ability to adapt to a variety of situations and people.

Salary: £24,635 – £25,927.

Contract: Full-time, permanent. The post could be term-time only plus two weeks or an all-year-round post. We are happy to talk about flexible working for the right candidate.

Start date: 4 November 2024.
