Key Responsibilities
Duties and Key Areas of Responsibility
As a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant the post-holder will be expected to:
- Assist the Speech and Language Therapists to provide a high standard evidence-based service.
- Manage intervention according to agreed aims – adapting and modifying as required, following liaison/supervision from the speech and language therapist
- Create and maintain recommended resources for individual students and groups.
- Carry out administrative tasks for the department.
- Gather information about learners and their families and record observations which contribute to the Speech/ Language Therapist’s assessment and review
- Communicate to others the purpose and aim of both individual and group therapeutic activities/interventions where required.
- Maintain accurate records of daily engagement with learners.
- Assist in developing skills and knowledge of Speech and Language Therapy across the college.
- Attend and participate in staff and student meetings where requested.
- Attend and actively participate in regular team meetings to review and develop the delivery of the service.
- To attend all training sessions as required and to provide training when required.
- Perform such other duties as are commensurate with the status and nature of the post.
It is desirable for candidates to be registered by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists abiding by their standards. Candidates should display good interpersonal skills, both with learners and staff, command professional respect, be well-organised, reliable and work to a high professional standard.
