Overview of Department: The operating environment within the defense sector is becoming increasingly complex, necessitating advanced technological capabilities to maintain operational advantage. The integration of Human Factors is critical to the development of safe, usable, and effective weapon systems. The Human Factors department is dedicated to ensuring that user capabilities are fully considered in the weapon system, from initial concept design through development and delivery to the customer.
You will be joining a team recognized as an industry leader in Human Factors Integration, where you will have the opportunity to influence systems from concept to delivery and gain first-hand experience working with defense users. Our team works across various projects through the development lifecycle, providing capabilities to users across different domains. We are also central to providing the effects element of advanced defense systems.
Responsibilities: In this role, you will have a direct impact on the development of defense technologies, engaging with users from early concept through to delivery, ensuring that the human-machine relationship is optimized. Responsibilities include:
- Conducting Human Factors Integration throughout the development lifecycle, providing progressive assurance to the customer as per relevant standards.
- Developing user interface prototypes and conducting Human-Centered Design.
- Analyzing and assessing the role of the operator within the weapon system, considering system planning, command, and control.
- Defining Human Factors (HF) requirements and developing and maintaining detailed specifications (e.g., for Human-Machine Interaction (HMI) / Human-Computer Interaction (HCI)).
- Conducting user experiments and trials to support system conception, development, and verification, taking into account operator workload and situational awareness.
- Analyzing physical ergonomics, equipment, and integration into workspaces.
Skillset/Experience Required
- Member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF).
- Experience in user interface design and use of user interface prototyping tools such as Axure.
- Proficiency in implementing Human-Centered Design processes.
- Application of Human Factors Integration and Human Factors Engineering in a defense context.
- Knowledge of defense standards.
- Experience in core HF activities including task analysis, requirements development, user trials, and experimentation.
- Application of physical ergonomics and experience with CAD software such as Jack or RAMSIS.
- Good understanding of Systems Engineering and related disciplines (Supportability, Training, Systems), including the definition and verification of HF requirements.
- Proficiency with MS Office and DOORS (requirements management).
- Ability to generate technical reports.
- Strong planning skills.
- Customer-focused with effective communication skills.
