Work You’ll Do
Provide tax consulting services to corporate clients. Identify complex tax issues and provide tax analysis for a variety of entities and their affiliates. Assist clients to balance compliance details and long-term tax strategies as well as understand national and state tax structures and align tax functions with business objectives. Provide day-to-day client service relationships and serve as a gateway to a variety of specialized tax services that can help improve compliance with taxing entities while maintaining each client’s overall tax risk profile. Under the supervision of Tax Managers, oversee tax consulting projects for clients in diverse industries. Assist with tax planning opportunity identification, implementing tax planning projects, providing tax research and analysis for clients in diverse industries, and keeping up-to-date on current tax practices and technical issues. Develop a working knowledge of the client's business and tax systems, track and complete open items relating to assigned areas, meet client deadlines, and contribute to the successful completion of projects. Actively participate in engagement planning. Mentor and coach junior team members and escalate issues when necessary. Apply the intricacies of tax regulations and their relationship to business.
Requirements
- Bachelor's (or higher) degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, Law, or related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent).
- Eighteen months as Tax Senior or related occupation gaining experience providing tax planning services or preparing and reviewing client work papers and tax returns.
- Experience must include eighteen months of:
- Providing tax planning and drafting Form 3115, Application for Change in Accounting Method, for C-corporations and partnerships;
- Utilizing tax research tools, including BNA, CCH, and RIA Checkpoint, to provide tax compliance and consulting services to various clients;
- Performing strategic tax reviews including fixed assets reviews, accounting method reviews, and limitation on business interest planning under IRC 163(j), and calculating interest expense capitalizable in inventory and capital projects under I.R.C. §§ 163(j), 263(A), and 266;
- Performing tax analysis for profit and loss statements, balance sheets, trial balance reports, fixed asset ledgers, and federal income tax returns;
- Drafting technical and procedural memoranda;
- Integrating Excel formulas, functions, and tools into the creation of tax models;
- Adjusting book inventory attributes to tax inventory attributes to calculate tax basis inventory and Schedule M adjustments;
- Identifying mixed service and production departments, and the corresponding trial balance accounts, under I.R.C. § 263A and calculating mixed service costs capitalized in a year for tax return purposes;
- Reconciling tax attributes including net operating losses and tax credits, and calculating carrybacks and carry forwards of said attributes; and
- Mentoring and coaching junior staff.
- Position requires approximately 60% domestic travel.
