The opportunity


The overall purpose of the ESPM Business Manager role is to provide business management level services and support to the ESPM functional teams to ensure a high quality of service to our customers. The services focus on the following: financial management, resource management, vendor support, product management support and general running of the business. Business management services include the embedding of methods and processes within the teams; monitoring and reporting on the provision of service to customers from initial request through to program/project/product delivery including: financial management activities to ensure we are responsibly and effectively managing budgets; resource management activities to ensure effective utilization and capacity management; developing and maintaining the overall goals for the function (through the balanced scorecard), contributing to and driving those goals across the function on behalf of the function leader; contributing to the design of processes and tools used by all ET functions to ensure demand, program/project status, services, finances etc. can be easily aggregated to the enterprise level; reporting via management dashboards with actions identified to deliver continual improvement. Working with the Business Management Operations lead and other Business Managers to support adoption of standard, consistent and transparent process. They may be supported by a team of Business Management Analysts.


Your key responsibilities


  • Partner with the ESPM Team to understand their portfolio, product, business strategy, prioritization, etc. to facilitate quality service delivery.
  • Work with the Business Office Lead to define the approach to, for example:
    • Customer request reporting and monitoring from initial request through demand management and for approved concepts to program/project delivery
    • Assessing and improving the effectiveness of portfolio management and demand management processes
    • Assessing and providing ongoing oversight to identify opportunities to optimize and maximize value of business management services to ET functional teams
    • Functional FY Plan and forecasting, processes, roles/responsibilities etc.
    • Identifying, defining, developing, and implementing improvements to project/financial reporting and monitoring processes and procedures
    • Tool requirements for delivering project/financial reporting and monitoring
  • Leverage Reporting to:
    • Provide executive visibility to project, program, portfolio and functional level status, issues, risks, costs, etc.
    • Produce integrated life cycle information for the function, portfolio, and sub-portfolio levels to show for example demand requests, budget v actual v projected spend, program/project delivery
    • Monitor people process and technology within ESPM.
    • Identify and deliver actions to improve the quality-of-service delivery based on monitoring and reporting activities and management information
    • Work with teams to drive data accuracy
  • Financial management
    • Oversee FY Plan and forecasting activities
    • Monitor and report on actual and projected spend to ensure function operates within FY Plan/Outlook – function, portfolio, and program/project levels.
    • Monitor and report on program/project financials to ensure project managers are managing financials in accordance with sound financial principles and recommend corrective actions
    • Work with product costing to assure ESPM products are aligned to the costing model
  • Process
    • Drive the implementation and embedding of process, methods and best practice into service and portfolio activities for the function, including project management, financial management, resource management, etc.
    • Drive improvements in consistency, effectiveness and efficiency of service management processes and tools
    • Drive best practice through the champion networks and knowledge coordination
  • Project Management
    • Conduct program/project health checks to help assure program/project delivery including for example artifact, gate reviews, and monitoring for delivery to scope, time, and cost
    • Work with the global resource and vendor management teams on staff requirements and reporting.
    • Work with the teams to prioritize demand, both within a portfolio and across the function.
  • People
    • Reports to the Business Management Operations Lead directly with dotted line to EYTS Lead
    • May supervise one or more BM analysts
    • Works as required to improve:
      • Selection and performance management of staff members
      • Evaluate, counsel, mentor and provide feedback on performance
      • Ensure training and development of staff members
      • Support staff members directly or indirectly in their roles
    • Meets regularly with staff to provide direction and serves as an escalation point for issues
  • Communications
    • Improve communications, content, and transparency of information with key customers
    • Work with function and product managers leaders to implement consistent communication across ESPM


Skills and attributes for success


  • Technical skills requirements
    • End to end understanding of IT life cycle (pipeline, resource, demand, project delivery, financial)
    • Experience in end-to-end financial management – plan, forecast, actual – function, portfolio, and program/project levels
    • Very good understanding of product and service delivery related key performance indicators
    • Project delivery experience in a similar IT environment
    • Business Analytic skills
  • Additional skills requirements
    • Flexibility to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity, and rapid change
    • Customer orientation and responsiveness
    • Ability to deal efficiently with escalations and difficult situations/people under pressure
    • Outstanding self-management, influence and relationship management, information presentation and interpersonal, communication

    • Experience working in a global IT environment


To qualify for the role, you must have


  • Experience in performing analytics on material GL accounts including, but not limited to, Purchased Services, Software maintenance, hardware maintenance
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to consolidate financial information which will represent key business drivers of results in executive level presentations
  • Ability to lead business initiatives in collaboration with senior ET leaders, as well as all levels of the organization
  • Ability to identify opportunities for improved forecasting and planning accuracy
  • Ability to identify opportunities for additional savings and efficiencies
  • Strong organizational skills with experience of managing business and financial processes
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment (either directly or indirectly)
  • Experience in working in a global environment and an ability to interact with different cultures and build strong working relationships
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse audiences and influence multiple stakeholders across the organization
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job and use critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Working knowledge of EY tools such as PPM, ECM, Retain and Apptio.


Ideally, you’ll also have


  • Ability to clearly define business problems, primary drivers, and present proposed solutions

  • 8 years of experience including demonstrated leadership in business and financial management and analysis. Product management and/or project management or a related discipline is desirable but not required.

What we offer
The compensation ranges below are provided in order to comply with United States pay transparency laws. Other geographies will follow their local salary guidelines, which may not be a direct conversion of published US salary range/s.
We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The salary range for this job in most geographic locations in the US is $129,600 to $242,400. The salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $155,600 to $275,500. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options. Under our flexible vacation policy, you’ll decide how much vacation time you need based on your own personal circumstances. You’ll also be granted time off for designated EY Paid Holidays, Winter/Summer breaks, Personal/Family Care, and other leaves of absence when needed to support your physical, financial, and emotional well-being.
