What are the responsibilities and job description for the Farm Assistant position at Flying Carrot Farm?
This is a full-time (40 hours/week), seasonal position starting in April and going through October with the possibility of some winter work. We are looking for someone that wants to make farming their career. For people with little farm experience, they can enter as an Apprentice. For someone who already has experience and is looking for the next step, they would be hired in as a Field Assistant. Both positions are involved in all aspects of the farm including greenhouse work, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, washing/packing, running the farmers’ market stand and some work with our flock of laying hens. The Field Assistant will also help manage the field crew and will work together with the farm managers to make sure all daily tasks get done.
Qualifications:
Experience with sustainable or organic vegetable production or a strong interest in vegetable production are preferred
Strong work ethic, dependable, and excellent attention to detail
Enthusiasm and the ability to work at a fast pace both independently or as part of a team
Ability to work in adverse weather (heat, rain, cold)
Valid drivers’ license preferred and dependable transportation a must
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Sense of humor and easy going personality would go a long way

When: April-October; flexibility in start and end dates and the possibility of some winter work
Hours: Full-time; across the season hours will average out to 40 hours/week, with slightly less hours in the spring and fall and more in the summer. Most work will be Monday-Friday 7am-4pm (1-hour unpaid lunch), with the possibility of some Saturday hours in the summer.
Experience: experience in sustainable vegetable production preferred
Compensation: $14.50 - $16/hour depending on experience plus vegetables and eggs from the farm.
