Job Description
Seeking a candidate with experience in a diverse set of activities related to machinery engineering including propulsion/machinery systems, mechanical equipment and systems, and machinery design. Experience should span multiple phases of design including preliminary / contract design, detail design, developmental equipment maturation, and construction support / waterfront issue resolution.
The Chief Machinery Engineer will have management responsibility and technical authority over multiple groups including propulsion and machinery cog engineers, and machinery designers. The candidate will represent the Machinery/Propulsion organization to internal/external organizations (including other Engineering groups, Operations, Program Office, Supply Chain, suppliers and the Navy) on associated technical and design subject areas, including providing leadership through maturity of developmental equipment and systems. The candidate will be responsible for product delivery within his/her area of responsibility for existing contracts within established targets for quality, cost and schedule as the designated Control Account Manager for associated cost centers. The candidate will be responsible for developing estimates for new contracts (including decomposition of statement of work, development of execution strategy, and forecast of resources). The candidate will have responsibility over his/her area for personnel development, job assignments, performance appraisal and other management functions, including technical and design supervisors. The candidate will be the leading technical authority on issues related to machinery and propulsion, and all other aspects related to machinery equipment and design.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 8 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering, and design or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the minimum requirements of the position, the preferred candidate will have at least 15 years of shipyard experience in related fields, preferably more than one core area. Master's degree preferred but not required.
