What are the responsibilities and job description for the Athletics Coordinator position at Join Us?
Qualifications: Must have knowledge or equivalent training in all areas of physical education and related fields. Must be willing to obtain lifeguarding certificate. Previous experience with developmentally disabled required, along with a valid driver’s license. High school diploma or GED required.
Essential Functions:
- Create a strong curriculum base in physical fitness, games, sports, swimming, and other areas pertaining to athletics and physical fitness.
- Coordinate sporting events in the community and facilitate inter agency sporting programs.
- Facilitate use of adaptive equipment and techniques in athletics.
- Offer classes, educational materials, mentoring, and innovative projects for day and evening programs, and all other agency programs (LAC, Without Walls, Continuing Education, etc).
- Maintain the pool area in a safe and clean manner; ensure all pool side equipment is in proper working condition. Ensure all chemical levels are at desired levels.
- Maintain required trainings and documentation as required on the various
- systems and logs provided.
- Collaborate with community consultants and educational institutions to design new programs that explore “ground breaking” ideas and growth in athletics and physical fitness.
- Design events/ tournaments that showcase the work and activity accomplished in sports.
- Promote athletics and physical fitness programs through accurate scheduling, articles for agency publications, taking photographs, emails, etc.
- Attend team meetings as scheduled by your supervisor.
- Meet once weekly with your supervisor to discuss program needs, participation, supply needs, scheduling of staff and programs and activities.
- Communicate with your supervisor any concerns pertaining to attendance and participation that are observed during programs.
- Coordinate volunteers, supported work, consultants, community groups and other athletics/ physical fitness related personnel.
Additional Functions:
- Provide activities on campus utilizing the facilities available in the programs and in the main building.
- Carry out any other responsibilities deemed necessary to the position by your supervisor
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Regular need to lift up to 50 lbs independently and up to 100 lbs with assistance.
- Occasional need for physical intervention.
- Potential for exposure to blood and body fluids.
- Occasional sitting, pushing, pulling, bending, and squatting, stairs.
- Frequent driving.
- Occasional computer work.
- Potential for exposure to chemicals.
- Prolonged exposure to water.
