About the role
Role Description: Quality lab technician - perform product inspections and testing, site inspections, training:
- Manage quality activities to include, but not limited to:
- Collect samples and perform product testing, to include analytical, microbiological and physical testing as per each product’s requirements. Document results in the ERP System (SAP).
- Review test results to ensure product is within the specifications. Product outside of the specification limits is to be placed on hold, with a physical tag placed on the product.
- Work with QATM to determine rework options for hold product.
- Perform raw material testing on incoming raw materials, to include analytical, microbiological and physical testing. Release in-specification materials from quality hold in ERP system for production use.
- Review and evaluate materials in inventory that have reached 50-75% of shelf life for possible expiration date extension.
- Perform daily calibration verification of lab equipment and production scales prior to use each day.
- Monitor and document environmental testing daily, to include water outfall (dissolved oxygen, pH, water flow temperature), cooler temperatures and processing room humidity levels.
- Perform weekly environmental micro swabs, to include Purchase Order and Lab Submission and ship to external lab for testing.
- Complete Purchase Orders and Lab Submission forms to external lab for product microbiological testing.
Key responsibilities
- Develop a continuous improvement culture, supporting related plant initiatives and Kerry Excel.
- Must stay up to date on all Quality related SOP’s and WI’s to ensure a full understanding of quality policies and procedures.
- Participate in multi-functional team meetings and strategic planning as applicable.
- Responsible for assigning and completing all CAPAs within the expected time frame.
- Complies with plant Safety, GMP, Sanitation, Quality, and Environmental policies and procedures.
- Other duties assigned based on business needs.
Qualifications and skills
- Must have excellent communication, organizational and planning skills needed to maximize job efficiency.
- Must be able to lead through vision and values, communicate with diplomacy and tact, and build high performing teams to achieve results.
- Must be able to perform complex mathematical functions (i.e. simultaneous equations, extrapolation solving for unknown variables).
- Proficiency in understanding the quality aspects of all products, up to and including all analytical data.
- Must be able to operate and read scales in pounds, grams and kilograms.
- Completes component material balances for batches in Excel as required.
- Must be able to work in non-climate-controlled environment.
- Experience and/or exposure to SAP or similar ERP system(s), preferred.
- Must have exposure/familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems, SharePoint and other Kerry internal systems.
- Able to direct and perform several tasks concurrently in a fast-paced environment.
Any other information: Lab experience preferred, College degree in food science or work experience in the food manufacturing industry.
