What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chef position at Lancaster Liederkranz?
This is a private club with dining hours Wednesday through Saturday evenings and certain holidays if they fall outside of the typical dining days. The menu has a variety of food options but German staples are expected to be prepared.
You must have at least 2 full years of prior cooking experience and the ability to produce at least two positive professional references. Prior leadership experience is preferred.
Knowledge of German food is not a requirement but you must be willing to quickly learn how to prepare certain items from scratch which might require time in the club outside of typical dining days.
This position is typically 35 to 45 hours with no late nights and usually Sundays-Tuesdays off unless extra food preparation is required or there is a holiday which regular kitchen staff is required to work. We offer competitive pay, but pay is based on prior experience and culinary knowledge.
Kitchen staff is not required during fest weekends, so guaranteed days off are well-known in advance. Additional paid time off days are offered as well.
Base pay is determined by prior experience.

- Must be a self-starter, motivated to work and able to manage time appropriately.
- Be a team player with a positive attitude.
- Be able to follow specific directions.
- Be willing to work with other paid employees and volunteers such as board members and volunteer service staff.
- Have working knowledge of proper food handling, temperatures, food storage, knife and slicer handling and proper cooking techniques.
- Be willing to learn German food recipes and preparation techniques.
- Be able to efficiently write and execute food preparation lists and requirements for dinner service.
- Be able to bend, stoop, lift 50 pounds and stand 3 hours if necessary.
- Have reliable transportation.
- Be well-groomed and wearing clean clothing or chef/cook attire including non-slip/slip-resistant shoes.
- Knowledge of menu writing, food cost, food pricing and labor cost is preferred.
- Up-to-date ServSafe certification is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of Point of Sale systems is preferred but not required.
