Recycling Sorter

What you’ll be doing to make an impact:

• Maintains assigned position on any sort line and manually picks out material as it passes. Working at a fast pace, inspects and sorts materials such as metals, glass, paper, or plastics into appropriate containers for recycling and/or disposal.
• Cleans recycling yard by sweeping, raking, and picking up broken glass and loose paper debris.
• Manually sorts recyclable materials.
• Deposits recoverable materials into chutes or places materials onto conveyor belts.
• Cleans materials such as metals according to recycling requirements.
• Recognizes and pulls contaminants from the conveyor.
• Sweeps and uses shovels to clean the facility when needed.
• All other duties as assigned.

• Identification of recyclables - The process of recognizing, distinguishing, showing, or finding differences in recyclables.
• Safety practices for climbing and working with hands.
• While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
• Working conditions are typically loud in the work area while operating equipment, or machinery following all prescribed safety rules and regulations.
• While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently exposed to hazardous working conditions, such as moving mechanical parts, vibrations, high precarious places, noxious unpleasant odors, and airborne particles.
• Ability to read and write at an elementary school level and comprehend and follow both verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to stand over and around a moving conveyor, climb stairs, and catwalk.
• Watch, and work over and around a fast-moving conveyor.
• Manually sort 60-65 items per minute from a moving conveyor with both hands.
• Distinguish between and separate recycling materials from non-recyclables.
• Work in an environment with unpleasant odors and sights.

• For this position, you will be paid $13/hour
• Work schedule for this position is Tuesday-Friday 7-5PM. Overtime is possible and will work occasional Saturdays if needed.
