Job Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs nursing care activities according to established patient care protocols, standards and procedures.
- Admits patients for care with good history, medicine history and chief complaint.
- Provides data to assist in the development of nursing diagnoses which are central to the plan of care.
- Contributes to the development of approaches to meet the needs of patients and families, and, develops patient care plans utilizing a standardized nursing care plan and assists in setting priorities for care.
- Carries out planned approaches to patient care and performs common therapeutic nursing techniques.
- In collaboration with the registered nurse, assists with making adjustments in the care plan and reports outcomes of care to the registered nurse providing direct supervision.
- Participates in patient and family education as evidenced by teaching documentation with appropriate resources.
- Contributes to effective discharge and referral plans on admission utilizing appropriate hospital and community resources.
- Delegates patient care activities to appropriate personnel and maintains accountability for those activities.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in a manner that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors; documents according to established standards; communicates effectively.
- Develops and maintains professional and clinical skills. Completes all annual competency and education requirements within established parameters and time frames. Participates in staff meetings, patient care meetings, educational in-services and other professional activities. Maintains awareness of policies and procedures and performance standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program
- State of Washington Licensed Practical Nurse license, as required for the specific position assignment.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or within 180 days of hire.
- One year of experience working in an acute care facility.
