What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Chemist position at MED5000MEPQ?

Affiliated with Medisca, CED Laboratory is looking to fill the role of Lead Chemist.  The Lead Chemist focuses primarily on leading and working with peer chemists to perform pharmaceutical analyses in the laboratory using mainly analytical instrumentation and compendial methods and procedures.

Your key responsibilities:

Coordinate sample testing with Chemists to ensure optimal turnaround times are met

Help with laboratory troubleshooting and the investigation process

Ensure lab training for analysts is completed for specified requirements

Perform laboratory review of results obtained by analysts

Conduct non-routine analysis of samples and compile data for documentation of test procedures.

Enforces all Laboratory procedures and answer staff questions about policies and procedures.

Sample Testing

  • Run lab experiments and record data in laboratory notebooks with accuracy and completeness
  • Calculate results as required in compendial methods and procedures.
  • Responsible for meeting due dates for the following testing:
    • Perform instrumentation testing for routine and stability samples
      • HPLC assay, organic impurities, related compounds, etc.
      • GC residual solvents, assay, limit test, etc.
      • ICP elemental impurities, etc.
    • Perform identification testing for routine samples
      • FTIR, UV-Vis, USP <191> color/precipitate test, etc.
    • Perform wet bench testing for routine and stability samples
      • Residue on ignition, Loss on drying, Water determination, etc.
    • Perform titration testing for routine and stability samples
      • Color indicator, potentiometric, etc.
    • Participate in laboratory investigations.

Inventory Login & Upkeep

  • Maintain laboratory inventory of chemicals and supplies
    • Check stock levels and request commonly used chemicals as needed
  • Remove and update inventory for expired chemicals
  • Periodic inventory of chemicals and supplies on hand

Laboratory Upkeep

  • Maintain organized and tidy laboratory areas and workspaces
  • Clean and store glassware regularly
  • Calibrate and perform verification checks on routine use equipment, i.e. analytical balances

Compliance to FDA regulations and CED SOPs

Perform other duties as assigned

Skills, knowledge and abilities:

  • B.Sc. in Chemistry or a Science related field, with knowledge of common laboratory techniques.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of laboratory experience performing analytical testing. HPLC expertise required.
  • Working knowledge of cGMP/GLP, ICH, USP/NF, FDA regulations
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook and Excel) required
  • Excellent communication skills; fluent English (oral & written) required.*
  • Strong work ethic and reliable
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Able to work under pressure and successfully function in a fast-paced environment
