What are the responsibilities and job description for the Apparel Designer position at OAK+FORT?

POSITION SUMMARY  

As the Apparel Designer, you will play a key role in the design department.  This is a unique opportunity for a creative individual who is interested in a dynamic and collaborative work environment. You will be a valued team member within our Design department and will have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the brand and embrace change as it grows and evolves. 

Relocation will be considered for this role.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Work closely with the Sr. Designer to design and create a collection that aligns to the OAK FORT aesthetic 

  • Help create concept, inspiration boards, and seasonal colour palettes 

  • Assist in presentation of vision, strategy and direction for each season 

  • Articulate design vision through sketches, technical and detail drawings 

  • Excellent at communicating and passing off accurate product information to Technical Developers to ensure successful prototypes, materials, trims, and colors are captured 

  • Collaborate with developers through sampling process  

  • Support in selecting materials and trims based on functionality, aesthetic, and trend 

  • Create partnerships with cross-functional partners to ensure the collection is delivered on time  

  • Manage and organize samples, trims, headers and colour palettes 

  • You are aware and responsible for your calendar and time 

 

REQUIREMENT  

  • 5 years of experience in Apparel Design 

  • Post-secondary education in Fashion Design or a related field 

  • Understanding of multiple categories – with a strong background in designing dresses is  preferred. 

  • Strong hand sketching skills on croquis 

  • Tech savvy; strong knowledge in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, PLM and MS Excel 

  • Collaborative and adaptable spirit 

  • Detail-oriented with a “big picture” mindset 

  • Resourceful with excellent problem-solving skills 

  • Proven ability to multitask and work with shifting priorities 

  • Strong connection to the OAK FORT aesthetic 

  • Experience working at a startup is an asset 

  • Thrives working in a fast-paced environment 

  • Can easily adapt to changes and prioritize workload
