PTS is looking for a Lab Tech to join our team in Sweeney, Texas. This is a contract position that is planned to last for 6 months (may have possibility to extend). Our client is a major refinery in the Gulf Coast area serving the fuel transportation and aviation fuel needs of the United States. They operate an integrated network of strategic assets that creates and sells refined petroleum products, from feedstock acquisition to wholesale, commercial and retail sales outlets. They are looking for Lab Technician who has prior experience in a laboratory environment specifically in Water Analysis in their Sweeny, TX refinery.
Job Title: Lab Tech
Location: Sweeny, Texas
Duration: 6 Months
Pay Range: $20.00- $25.00 per hour (Depending on Experience)
Responsibilities:
- Ability to work alone as well as in a team
- Performs and documents quality assurance testing to ensure the accuracy and integrity of analytical results in adherence to the Laboratory Quality Assurance program
- Performs all analyses in accordance with the Refinery and Loss Control Programs to meet goals of improved safety and reduced refinery losses
- Learns and applies analytical standards and methods, and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance while completing assigned tasks
- Applies education and uses creativity to solve technical problems encountered while completing assigned tasks
- Communicates and consults with engineers, operators, and maintenance personnel to ensure accurate analyses
- Practices good interpersonal skill sets daily, including communication, listening, teamwork and leadership
- Takes responsibility for tasks, quality, and accuracy and is accountable for those responsibilities
- Responsible for the safety/health of self and those working with you, promoting health and safety of others, and performing quality work in a safe and environmentally conscientious manner
- Responsible for complying with Laboratory policies and procedures, company policies and procedures, established standards, and governmental regulations (Federal, State and Local)
- Overtime work required at times
- Ability to understand and carry out work direction in a safe manner
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required (bachelors preferred)
- Ability to work alone as well as in a team
- Able to work 12-hour rotating shift schedule
- Valid Driver"s license
- Computer proficiency (MS Office)
- Legally authorized to work in the United States on a regular full-time basis without restrictions
- Willing and able to perform and comply with the following items, with or without accommodation:
o To lift up to 50 pounds
o To work around chemicals, including acids and bases
o To wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toed shoes, ear and eye protection)
o To maintain your face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven) if applicable
o To work outside in harsh weather conditions
o To work with petroleum products that are under high pressure and heat
o To learn computer software associated with process operations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor"s Degree in Science, Associate Degree in Chemical Technology, or 16 hours of college level Chemistry course work
- 2 years" experience in lab environment
- Good interpersonal skills including active listening, issue resolution, proactive communication, leadership, and teamwork
