Summary of Duties:
  • Responsible for preparing cost estimates at the proposal phase and during the course of their projects
  • Plans and directs the work of the highly skilled design engineers to achieve product objectives
  • Owns all engineering deliverables from conceptual design, to development, qualification and sustaining engineering
  • Provide efficient engineering production support to all Santa Maria's cross-functional departments
  • Ensures all engineering deliverables are completed on schedule and on budget for all projects/programs of their product-line responsibility
  • Promote cost awareness through BOM management and manufacturing decision making
  • Works closely and constructively with other departments within the FTF&C Division and Cabin Central Engineering to gain consensus on the best lessons learnt and practices for each engineering issue
  • Drive commonality of designs and parts across programs per Chrief Engineers' guidelines from FTF&C Division and/or Cabin Central Engineering
  • Prepare summary reports and KPI metrics of design processes for internal management and the customer
  • Responsible for preparing design cost estimates at the proposal phase and during the course of projects
  • Collaborate with organization department and Safran leadership to find cost-effective design solutions
  • Recruits, hires, trains staff, evaluates employee performance, and recommends or initiates promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action
  • Other duties may be assigned

Job Summary:
The Manager, Engineering owns Engineering product-line(s) of current and future mdium to low-complexity projects and/or programs, in terms of scope, schedule, cost, Engineering Resources and Engineering Deliverables. Medium to low complexity projects or programs is defined as the Santa Maria product-lines (i.e. Front Row Monuments, ECOS® Bins and Business Jets peripherals), that undergo a partial or limited Safran Prompt/Develop gated process in design and development, industrialization and qualification testing. The Manager, Engineering owns and manages all programs/projects to his or hers Product Responsibility, including planning and direct the work of the highly skilled Engineers to achieve project objectives, monitor scheduling and product-line resources to meet/exceed business objectives and goals, a full design intent, development, industrialization and qualification testing.

The Manager, Engineering is also responsible for their product-line resources, organizational structure and alignment with customer and business needs.

This position reports to the FTF&C Division-level VP of Engineering.

Job requirements

Qualifications:

Education: BS Degree in Aerospace Engineering or equivalent in a related field (e.g. mechanical) required
Experience: 8 years related experience in aerospace or mechanical engineering design with a minimum of 5 year of technical leadership or management of technical people experience.
Computer Skills:
  • Working knowledge of CATIA V5. Other parametric CAD systems are acceptable.
  • Working knowledge of SmarTeam. Other PLM systems are acceptable.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Other Skills:
  • Experience working with OEM is highly preferred.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Strong knowledge of common materials and manufacturing processes used in the aerospace industry
  • Experience coaching and managing a team of engineers including conducting annual performance reviews
  • Business acumen to assist in establishing budgets, providing program health metrics to management, make recommendations for resourcing programs
  • Strong communication, time-management, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to motivate team efforts to accomplish goals
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions per Safran SPS
  • Ability to develop, implement and monitor corrective action plans per Safran SPS

Additional Preferred Skills: (not required)
  • Familiarity with ERP systems
  • Knowledge of databases

“The expected salary range for this positions is between $104,200 - $163,700 USD. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, education, and other factors permitted by law.”
