DESCRIPTION:
The Senior Civil Engineer reports to the AMR Engineering Manager.
The Senior Civil Engineer will bring expertise for multiple USNC projects in the capacity of overseeing work undertaken by contract resource employed to deliver technical scope for USNC. The Senior Civil Engineer also provides and coordinates technical support to operations and maintenance and performs system analysis. This position is responsible for oversight of the design, procurement, fabrication, and installation of critical nuclear structures and components.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
- Responsible for technical contributions to existing projects, pursues professional development activities, and contributes to new business generation
- Oversee teams made up of a mix of USNC and contract staff, delivering technical scope for USNC, ensuring that it is fit for purpose and aligned to business and company goals and objectives.
- Contribute to and make decisions and recommendations for area of expertise relating to designs of USNC projects and products
- Oversee design of advanced nuclear concepts, typically requiring considerations for dynamic systems like control features as well as demanding environments with extreme temperatures, pressures, and vibratory loads
- Provide engineering expertise during planning and concept stages to concepts and proposals.
- Document design decisions and write technical reports.
- Perform highly complex engineering tasks that require knowledge and experience with nuclear industry standards and regulations
- Lead discussions in a group setting to resolve problems or coordinate design production
EDUCATION/EXPERTISE:
- B.S. in Civil engineering or equivalent field of study and 7 years of industry experience or M.S. and 5 years of industry experience or Ph.D and 3 years of industry experience.
- Intermediate experience with fluid systems flowing at high temperatures and pressures
- Appreciation of hands-on hardware design, analysis, prototyping, fabrication, and assembly
- Strong commitment to nuclear safety principles
- Strong commitment to employee safety and well-being
- Intermediate experience working in a project environment budgeting, scheduling, and reporting
- Intermediate experience working in the nuclear industry
KNOWLEDGE:
- Strong knowledge of nuclear systems, controls, and materials for reactor applications
- Highly skilled in engineering design and design principles
- Strong knowledge and understanding of nuclear regulatory requirements with particular focus on systems important to safety will be beneficial
- Strong understanding and experience in system engineering methodologies
- Highly skilled with risk management policies and procedures
SKILLS:
- Have effective communication skills and understanding of the corporate culture with an ability to influence key stakeholders and decision makers across USNC
- Exceptional leadership, communication, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills
- Proficient in computer skills and possess the ability to effectively use various analytical, design, project management, and presentation computer programs
- Possess exceptional planning and time management skills
- Proficiency in technical report writing and presentation
- Have excellent verbal, written communication, and time management skills
- Work with other departments to increase overall strength of the group and company
- Possess excellent verbal and writing skills to effectively communicate with others

WORK CONDITIONS:
- Hybrid working arrangements with 2 days a week at the offices based in Warrington
- Local and international travel is required as needed
- Limited working time at workshops and test facilities will be required
- Must be able to work in generally accepted office and field environments.
- Due to the company HQ being based in Seattle, there may a requirement for work after normal UK working hours. These instances would be rare and for short periods only
